LET US PROTECT THE RIGHT OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE SAYS BAN KI-MOON

In the wake of the International Day of the World's Indigenous People, being celebrated on August 9, the UN Chief, Ban Ki-moon has called the world community to improve access to education for indigenous people and to reflect their experiences and culture in places of learning. Remind the world community that among those most vulnerable being left behind were the indigenous people, Ban said.



In a released message the UN Chief stated, "Let us commit to ensuring indigenous peoples are not left behind as we pursue the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals."In Focus"Indigenous people face a wide range of challenges including systematic discrimination, denial of their land and territorial rights and inadequate access to essential services.







Indigenous people regularly face stigmatization of their cultural identity and lack of respect and recognition for their heritage and value including in textbooks and other educational materials," he added while stressing the need of promoting their right to education.



The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is meant to promote and protect the rights of the indigenous population across the world.The observance was first pronounced by the General Assembly
