He submitted a draft of his project to his supervisor, with
the name of the supervisor written on the cover page: Dr.
Isienyi.
The supervisor gave him a stern look before correcting him:
Dr. MRS. Isienyi.
She's married and you must emphasize that point. As a
woman, even after badging a Ph.D, she is still half a human
without her husband. Woe betide her if she's not married!
A man can comfortably go by his titles only - Dr., Prof.,
Chief - without unnecessary emphasis on his marital status.
But a woman must state her marital status because her
self-worth and validity depend on it.
The way she is regarded by the society, her peers, even by
herself, solely depends on her marital status, not by her
personal achievements.
This is the predicament of the Nigerian woman.
