What maybe called a revolution in body exercise is here with us in Nigeria.
Previously, body exercise or physical education or fitness was taught in Primary schools in the country then by Teachers Training College students on teaching practice. It was an exciting moment which pupils in primary schools long for because of the time it affords to play around, compete with others to win prizes and enjoy the relationships and teachings of new breed of teachers that were soft and tender hearted. Since, it is a subject of its own, participation becomes compulsory for every pupil that hunger for success and promotion to another class.
Physical education could only be mentioned among Secondary school students during the inter house sports competitions, when students were divided into different houses to compete with others and other schools students during the sports week. It was a subject meant for Teachers Training College and Universities Students who are specializing in Education. Generally, physical fitness was consciously attended to as an academic and relaxation activities and not for it’s health implications. Boys were seen to exercise inform of football during leisure hours and girls engaged in some form of exercises during play hours. Such fun filled leisure hours of old has been stolen by wide spread of Television, computer and internet based programs and continued home tutorials that presently take the greater hours of children’s days that no room exists for leisure group play any longer.
In those days people were not intentionally into exercises for health gains until recently. Parents in Africa used to forbid their children and consider the same as idling away precious time that would have been spent in helping out in farms, trade or house chores and for that, a lot of children received severe dealings from parents, unlike the developed world where children were encouraged to exercise for all round benefits especially health.

In the developed world, physical education comprising many sporting activities has come of age dating as far back as late 1400’s and gained relevance and momentum in the centuries following, especially in 1800’s. In 776 BC, the first ancient Olympiad was held while in 1896, first modern Olympic was held in Athens, Greece. Johann Bernard Basedow, Friedrich Jahn and Charles Beck, all of German stock, were popular contributors to making physical education gain wide recognition, establishing a system of physical training among others, which was considered as a form of patriotism, by creating strong, sturdy and fearless youths who would help to secure Germany’s freedom and could defend the Fatherland from outside forces having been defeated in the Napoleonic wars. It is self evident the advantages of muscular development (macho) and knowledge of martial acts which are off shoots of body fitness and physical exercises to self and national defense in times of war and attacks as envisaged by these Germans. Apart from this, the development of physical education and body fitness has offered employments to people in form of teaching, made many footballers, wrestlers and other athletes’ millionaires who would have not done well academically. Other ancillary benefits include; scattered locations of fitness shops in every nook and crannies of the towns with laudable patronage which has invariably created more jobs to non sports men and women in the system. The global friendship, interaction, relationships enhanced through global sporting competition like Olympics, and relieves from stress garnered from the day’s tedious jobs, as people relax in front of TV Sets watching different sporting competitions.

Due to the pervasive enlightenment on the perceived benefits of exercise to health and life across the globe, Nigerians could not but join millions of people all over the World to seek for a better healthy living. Of course, Africa would need exercise to augment her inadequate nourishing food supply and relieve from stress through excessive labour, but to what extent does exercise guaranties a healthy living begs for answer.
Body fitness gurus and nutritionists are not holding back from educating the public on this subject in order to reduce the rate of mortality in our society and with the spread of gyms and fitness centers across the countries and early morning television programs on fitness, the message is penetrating fast into the heart of the society getting men and women obsessed with exercise.

Therefore, Nigeria's current situation is in accordance to the will of God just as he has said through the mouth of his prophet Nnamdi Kanu. It is a manifestation of what God can do to restore the dignity of the oppressed especially his children which Biafrans are; God is at work, and he will see that his promise as said through the mouth of his prophet comes to pass. Wants security assistance to Nigeria withheld

A member of the United States Congress, Tom Marino, has written a letter to Secretary of State, John Kerry, asking the US government to withhold security assistance to Nigeria until President Muhammadu Buhari demonstrates a “commitment to inclusive government and the most basic tenets of democracy: freedom to assemble and freedom of speech”.

He also asked the State Department to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to Nigeria until President Buhari establishes a track record of working towards inclusion.

In a two-page letter dated September 1, 2016 and addressed to Kerry, a copy of which was exclusively obtained by THISDAY yesterday, Marino, a Republican from Pennsylvania who assumed office on January 3, 2011, said there were a number of warning signs emerging in the Buhari administration that signal “the man who once led Nigeria as a military dictator might be sliding towards former autocratic tendencies”.

The Congressman, who is a member of the Committees on the Judiciary, Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs, and the Chairman, Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law, said Nigerian government must “hold accountable those members of the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Military complicit in extra-judicial killings and war crimes”.

In the six-paragraph letter to Kerry, Marino also expressed concern over Nigeria’s anti-corruption war, saying “of additional concern is President Buhari’s selective anti-corruption drive, which has focused almost exclusively on members of the opposition party, overlooking corruption amongst some of Buhari’s closest advisors. Politicizing his anti-corruption efforts has only reinforced hostility among southerners”.

His letter to Kerry reads: “Dear Secretary Kerry, I am encouraged by the personal interest you have taken in aiding Nigeria and its administration as it takes on endemic corruption, multiple insurgent movements, and a faltering economy. However, I believe there are a number of warning signs emerging in the Buhari administration that signal “the man who once led Nigeria as a military dictator might be sliding towards former autocratic tendencies.”

“I would urge the U.S. to withhold its security assistance to the nation until President Buhari demonstrates a commitment to inclusive government and the most basic tenets of democracy: freedom to assemble and freedom of speech. A logical start towards this commitment is for the Nigerian government to hold accountable those members of the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Military complicit in extra-judicial killings and war crimes”.

“Human rights groups like Amnesty International have widely documented torture, inhumane treatment, and extra-judicial killings of defenseless Nigerians since President Buhari took office.”

Quoting Amnesty International Report, he wrote, “in the last six months, Nigeria’s military has unlawfully killed at least 350 people and allowed more than 168 people, including babies and children, to die in military detention.”

He further wrote: “The Secretary to the Government of Kaduna State even admitted to burying 347 of those killed in a mass grave. And while President Buhari promised swift condemnation, his words rang empty. Instead of swift reforms, Buhari chose to reinstate Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, who Amnesty International revealed was in charge of the Nigerian military unit that executed more than 640 unarmed, former detainees.

“Also, in separate incidents concerning the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPO, the Nigerian Army has killed at least 36 – the real number is likely higher – people since December 2015 in an attempt to silence opposition and quell attempts by the group to gather publicly.”

Describing President Buhari as a former military dictator whose reign (as military head of state) was cut short by a coup, he stated that the President has continually shunned inclusivity in favour of surrounding himself with advisors and ministers from the north of the country and the region he considers home.

“Of President Buhari’s 122 appointees, 77 are from the north and control many of the key ministries and positions of power. Distrust is already high in Nigeria and favouring Northerners for key appointments has only antagonized the issue. These appointments are also primarily Muslim in the north and Christian in the south, adding a religious aspect to long-held regional biases.

“Of additional concern is President Buhari’s selective anti-corruption drive, which has focused almost exclusively on members of the opposition party, overlooking corruption amongst some of Buhari’s closest advisors. Politicizing his anti-corruption efforts has only reinforced hostility among southerners,” he claimed in the letter.

He said the Obama Administration would advance justice by urging the Buhari Administration to act decisively to hold accountable members of the police and military.

The congressman said, “This is a logical first step in making a demonstrable, sustained commitment to inclusive democracy, with distributed power in Nigeria. Until President Buhari establishes a track record of working towards inclusion, we ask the State Department to refrain from selling warplanes and other military equipment to the country.

“The State Department should urge President Buhari to form a government that represents the diversity of its citizens and allows dissenting voices to be heard. Democracy can thrive only if people are free to assemble, to express their beliefs, and voice their concerns.”

This they have started by writing falsehood and fake reports against IPOB after several of Buhari’s evil plans against Nnamdi Kanu and the emergence of Biafra failed woefully.

As free and peaceful people that have refused to lift a stick or raise a gun in spite of all the provocations so far; the military action against the lawful people of Biafra has been sustained. While there is an intense move to silence and extinguish Biafrans; in good faith and with the hope that the world authorities will stand to defend the international conventions that propel the Indigenous People of Biafra. It is, therefore, imperative to know that Biafrans have endured so much and now exploiting every civil means to get justice. As this extermination continues; it is noteworthy that the people of Biafra have committed no crime known to any law but have thrived on freedom of speech which has brought death and mayhem upon them. While this is the case; they have been conspired against, and everybody has gone deaf and dumb while a part of the world is about to be extinguished. The killing of six million Jews started just this way, and negligence tends to play a remarkable role in abetting such evil against the people of Biafra. While there is visible genocide in Biafra; it is believed that calling the world or international community will trigger sympathy and awaken the consciousness of men to the inhuman State treatment of Biafrans. A call from you can save humanity and a people faced with a second genocide.
The more there is silence is the more this ongoing genocide is sustained, and there is need to intensify the call for justice to the international community and world relevant authorities. The non-violent approach applied by Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra means every alternative must be exploited to save humanity from extermination. This call for justice must be given every attention needed and to enforce due action to arrest the lawlessness that has narrowed Biafrans to animals whose rights are not respected or a species of terror. Having arrested Nnamdi Kanu the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, the call for his unconditional release has been sustained and met with unwarranted military action against the people of Biafra.
ISIS- like execution of the people of Biafra is now rampant with Amnesty International on top of the game they know how best to play; browsing and uncovering the genocide going on in Biafra and reporting to the world- details of how Biafrans are shot without provocation. Forceful disappearance is the order of the day, and there seems to be no end to this evil against Biafrans. This evidence via report from leading human right institution buttresses the position of the people of Biafra who has been crying day and night over the genocide being perpetrated on them. It is the collective responsibility of the entire people of the world to stand and fight for the safety of people without any record of provocation or threat but people that have contributed immensely to the development of the world at large.
Nnamdi Kanu who has been in unlawful detention has rigorously been pleaded and forced to renounce or negotiate with FG of Nigerian which he obviously declined and reiterated that it is Biafra or nothing. While there is no hope of Buhari breaking him; they have intensified their move and have attempted to murder him the second time in the space of one year. Spain is not killing Catalonians and UK is not killing Scots; why then must Nigeria kill Biafrans. Through this call, the world should be made to know that the people of Biafra deserve equal treatment with other human beings. Nigeria must be rebuked and condemned; there should be compulsion for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and halt to the military action against unarmed people.
It is clear that Nigeria is a lawless state and would do nothing but contravene its laws and constitution let alone respecting international conventions. For this reason, it is crucial to remind the world of the role they should play when human rights that are protected without boundaries are abused by a State. Therefore; it is overdue for the world authorities to step up and compel Nigerian State to respect what she signed to respect. The 2007 UN declaration on the rights of Indigenous People is a sacred convention and must be respected or compelled to be respected if need arises.

Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate (NDGJM) freedom fighter dissociate self from Edwin Clark's peace initiative

New regional militia in Nigeria, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate (NDGJM), has warned the Federal Government and its agencies to be wary of overtures for peace in the oil-rich region spearheaded by elder statesman and erstwhile information minister, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark.

In an e-mailed statement on Sunday the nascent militant group dissociated itself from the reported decision by the NDGJM to buy into the peace plans apparently being pursued by the Buhari administration to halt the embarrassing spate of violent agitation signposted by the series of attacks on oil and gas installations in the Niger-Delta.

Specifically, the group said that it has no member by the name of “Odu” alleged to be representing the NDGJM in the reported peace moves with the Federal Government under the Clark-led negotiation initiative, threatening to continue its violent campaign of bombing oil and gas installations outside the creeks and coastal parts of the region.

The octogenarian national Ijaw leader is widely believed to have won the confidence of President Muhammadu Buhari’s team saddled with getting around the knotty issue of restoring enduring peace in the region as one of the visible personages in the area.

Only two weeks ago, Clark convened a Niger Delta stakeholders meeting in Effurun (near Warri), Delta State, was primarily to establish a roadmap for fashioning enduring peace and security in the region.

The round-table event was attended by Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, who used the occasion to reiterate his administration’s real concern about the disruptive activities of the resurgence of militancy in the state and Niger Delta vis-a-vis the direct financial costs to the state in terms of monthly declining revenue from the Federation Account.

However, the NDGJM condemned what it said was an attempt to fraudulently include it in the list of agitating groups he (Clark) had brought to the negotiation table, saying it does not trust the role of Clark alleging that lucre, rather than peace in the Niger-Delta, appeared to be the real interest of elder statesman and politician.

In the statement by “General” Aldo Agbalaja, spokesman of the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, in Asaba on Sunday, the new militia denounced the aforementioned recent stakeholders meeting at PTI Conference Centre, Effurun, as being practically an Ijaw affair as have been the reported negotiation with the country’s central government.

Agbalaja said, “We have warned the Federal Government to be wary of the old man, Chief E.K Clark, and his antics; he can do anything to make dirty money. He and his cohorts, in their desperation to make the unsuspecting government, oil companies and the general public believe they are indeed ‘lords’ of the Delta, created a big fat lie, another charade, in the name of a nonexistent cease fire by the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate.

“For the avoidance of doubts, we have seen no reason to halt our anger against the Nigerian federal government, not when the oppressive system has yet to move a muscle to respond to our requests. We want to categorically say that we have no member, less talking of leader by the name ODU, as quoted by the Vanguard newspaper.

“This said call and the so-called ceasefire is all a job, just like the Ijaw-dominated, Clark-convened Niger Delta stakeholders meeting in Effurun was, they both are meant to justify money they hope to obtain from government. The High Command of the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate uses this medium to alert the world to disregard this fraud. We have our means of communicating, definitely not a call.”

Titled “Clark and Co at Ut Again”, the statement further advised the Nigerian security agencies to go after those who allegedly claimed to have made telephone contact with the NDGJM through the said Odu said to be its leader.

“When we make our next ‘LOUD’ statement, they (security agencies) should go after ODU, who just claimed to be the leader of the mandate”, it said.

The statement also denounced what it called “an Urhobo group, thus the frequent and deliberate characterisation as such by a section of the media”; it claimed that the erroneous tag on the group has prompted “a reckless military invasion of some Urhobo communities”.

It restated its earlier call that residents around oil and gas installations in its target areas should vacate them, saying only it had no immediate plans to halts hostilities.

According to the statement, “We are warning and at the same time appealing to residents around major oil and gas facilities across our region to please evacuate immediately. This warning has become necessary because of the fact that we do not wish any of our people, for whom we have taken up this crusade, to become casualties of our campaign.

All the marked facilities in all the states have been rigged with explosives at strategic points, waiting to be detonated. We are only being slowed down because of the presence of those still living close by. This struggle will only cease when the adversarial Nigerian system yields to reason.”
