DSS Rescues Colleague From Kidnappers' Den

The Department of State Services, DSS, officials have rescued one of their colleagues, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen within the week.

The victim, a female officer, identified only as Agnes, was whisked away by unknown gunmen along Eleme-Agbonchia Road, in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

According to the report, Agnes was in a commercial bus with about 10 other passengers when the incident happened at about 5.30pm on Wednesday.

The criminals were said to have halted the movement of the commercial bus and took away the occupants of the vehicle, including the DSS operative.

A top DSS official told Southern City that while others were allowed to go, Agnes was held back in a forest in Oyigbo area of the state.

“She was in a commercial vehicle with some other passengers when a group of gunmen stopped and hijacked the vehicle.

“They were taken into a forest in Oyigbo and later, the gunmen allowed others to go and still held onto Agnes,” the source said.

According to the source, the DSS operatives had swung into action on Wednesday, searching the forest with a view to rescuing Agnes and apprehending the suspects.

The hoodlums were said to have fled when they noticed the presence of some DSS operatives in the forest, abandoning their victim, who was immediately rescued.

The DSS official, who craved anonymity, said that investigation was still ongoing with a view to arresting those behind the kidnap of the security agent.
