Biafra not about Succession’ as World Igbo Summit demands Nnamdi Kanu’s release

The World Igbo Summit has placed a demand on the Federal Government to release detained RaÂdio Biafra director and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPO Comrade Nnamdi Kanu from prison. The call was made by Dr Chris Aniedobe, a resource person for the Summit.
In his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Summit which began on Thursday, 27th October, 2016 at Gregory UniverÂsity Uturu, Aniedobe, a public afÂfairs analyst, said that the Biafran spirit is not one of secession but one which Igbos invoke to fight for social justice.
His words; “Biafra is the undyÂing wish of Ndigbo to be free in Nigeria. If absolutely necessary, to be free outside Nigeria. As Prof Obiozor stated, we want the uniÂty of Nigeria, we also want justice. The two of them have to go toÂgether. So Biafra is the spirit with which we will continue to fight for social justice in Nigeria. It is not the spirit of secession.
Former governor of Anambra State, Dr Ezeife pointed out that one major method of encouraging investment opportunities in Igbo land is for state governors to proÂvide lands for investors.
He also called on Dr lbe to esÂtablish an Igbo department in Gregory University.
The event which began on Thursday, 27th October 2016 is billed for four days, with business sessions holding on day 2, to disÂcuss various issues towards a 50 year development goal of Igbo land.
The business sessions were moderated by the crop of Igbo professionals including Prof ChiÂma Korieh, Prof Chidi Osuagwu, Ken Emechebe, and Prof IhechukÂwu Madubuike who is a two time former minister of the federation.
Others include Prof Pat Utomi, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, Iyom JoseÂphine Anenih, Prof Viola OnwuÂliri, Dr. Tony Nwankwo Ezeigwe and others.
People present include Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, OkÂwadike Igbo Ukwu, Dr ChukÂwuemeka Ezeife, Prof Ihechukwu Madubuike and a host of others.
The Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano was repreÂsented by his deputy, Hon Nkem Okeke. Former Chief of Army Staff, General Ike Nwachukwu was also present.

On August 27, 1985 Brigadier J.N. Dogonyaro announced the coup that dethroned the Buhari/ Idiagbon government and brought Babangida to power. Below is an excerpt from his speech.
"........The Nigerian public has been made to believe that the slow pace of action of the Federal Government headed by Major-General Muhammadu Buhari was due to the enormity of the problems left by the last civilian administration.
Although it is true that a lot of problems were left behind by the last civilian government, the real reason, however, for the very slow pace of action is due to lack of unanimity of purpose among the ruling body; subsequently, the business of governance has gradually been subjected to ill-motivated power play considerations. The ruling body, the Supreme Military Council, has, therefore, progressively been made redundant by the actions of a select few members charged with the day-to-day implementation of the SMC’s policies and decision.
The concept of collective leadership has been substituted by stubborn and illadvised unilateral actions, thereby destroying the principles upon which the government came to power. Any effort made to advise the leadership, met with stubborn resistance and was viewed as a challenge to authority or disloyalty.
Thus, the scene was being set for systematic elimination of what, was termed oppositions. All the energies of the rulership were directed at this imaginary opposition rather than to effective leadership.                                                 The result of this misdirected effort is now very evident in the country as a whole. The government has started to drift. The economy does not seem to be getting any better ......."
