NIGHT I SPENT WITH A GHOST
Written by Esomchy
Episode 3
"What do you want from me?" I asked as fear took total control of my soul and body.
"Sam, just calm down!!" Her resounding voice sent shivers down my spine,
"I'm not gonna hurt a single hair on your head, though I wanted to do that but I discovered you're a different person, I realized that all men aren't the same."
There was sudden silence that was followed by silent sobbing before she continued,
"I just want you to see the real me,
I want you to have a glimpse of the pàin I felt, I want you to see the agôny I went through."
Her voice quavered as she sobbed silently and I felt anxious even though I wasn't completely getting what she was saying,
"What happened?" I found myself asking but never looked at her for once.
"He claimed he loved me, he made it seem like he cared, he stôle my heart from me when I was in deep slumber, I loved him intentionally, wholeheartedly and unconditionally, I trusted him more than myself, little did I know that he was just a wild wolf in sheep's clothing...
‘Aria, you're so special,
I'm so happy to be with someone like you,
I have never and will never regret a single moment of having you in my life’
This was his daily pledge to me and I thought I had found someone who truly loved me, not knowing that what he confessed was just an antonym of what he had in mind.
His penniless pocket was never a burden to me, I even requested my upfront salary of 12 months which I gave him to rent an apartment and find something doing just because I wanted our future to be as bright as the morning sun.
I would smile when I was alone and even when I was in public places whenever I thought about him...
‘Aria, this one you're smiling like someone that just won a lottery, hope you have not fallen in love. Just be careful o, fàke guys are everywhere these days’
That's what my best friend told me one day she caught me blushing, I still regret not listening to her till now, had it been I heeded her warning, I wouldn't have fallen victim to this."
"Aria what really happened," I asked soberly, I was getting anxious to hear the full narration.
"It happened approximately 12 months back,
He called me and told me to visit him, I had a very important appointment that day but because of how urgently he described it,
I canceled it and found my way to his apartment.
‘Jeff, what's the problem?’ I threw my handbag without looking to see where it fell and rushed to where he lay on the bed, wrapping himself with a bedspread. He firmly held my wrist as soon as I made to feel his forehead with the tip of my palm.
‘Aria, I can't hold it anymore,
I want you now!’ He confessed with a look I was not able to describe.
‘I thought you said you're sick and what about our covenant to stay till we're legally married?’ I asked with mixed feelings but his response wasn't in my favor at all,
‘Whether we do it now or later, you're still mine and that's the most important thing’
With this statement in his mouth, he carried me up, placed me on the bed, and cl¡mbed on top of me,
‘Please, Jeff, I'm on my périod, we can't do this now’ I pleaded but all my pleadings landed on deaf ears.
"Whatever, No One will hinder me from making it big in this life," He pûshed his hand toward my chest.
I tried to resist him and he l@nded a h@rd pûnch on my face and l@nded another one on my mouth, rendering me powerless.
The pàin was so much that it burned like fire, and before I knew it, he had tôrn my clothes and undiés.
‘Argh! Argh!’I screàmed helplessly as he fôrced himself ins¡de me.
He fôrcefully took away my vîrginîty.
He snàtched away my dignity,
He déstroyed my pride.
I scréamed and scréamed but the music was so loud that no one could hear my voice.
He continued fôrcing himself ins¡de me with all his strength,
The pàin was too much that I felt it everywhere."
"What kind of rûthless human is that?" I fired and clenched my fists in wràth.
"I hope you have repaid him in his own coin,
I hope you have gotten your revénge?" I queried fúriously.
‘How could someone do a thing like this to a fellow human?
This is just too much,
Haba, what's this world really turning into?’
"How can I get révenge when my spîrit has left the bôdy? "Her voice drew me back to reality and goose pimples registered all over my body.
"You mean you're de@d?
Are you actually saying I have been with a ghost all this while?" I inquired shakingly,
"I wasn't able to endure the pàin, my capacity was not able to bear the anguish, I realized that leaving my body was the best option to choose, I discovered that the only way to avert the páin was to slip out of my dizzy body." Her voice stiffened as she sobbed bitterly.
Though Her story was so touching,
I wasn't able to stay again,
how can I be in the same room with a ghost,
I quickly got up from the floor and hastily held the door handle but unfortunately, the door still refused to open.
That was when I reckoned it was finally and finally and finally OVER!
Hot liquid trailed down my trousers as I noticed her presence behind me.
"Sam," She called with a sobby tone,
"I'm so disappointed, so after hearing my story, after getting a copy of what I went through,
all you could do is just run away?
Is it good? Is it normal?"
Her voice touched me so much and I felt very bad for trying to run,
"I'm sorry," I apologized pitifully,
"Aria, I know it's not good,
I know it's very abnormal to do a thing like this, but you just have to see things from my own perspective. You know that humans still have these humanistic feelings.
I believe you know there's a great bond between humans and spirits.
No normal human would feel safe and expressional with a ghost in this dreadful night..."
"I understand perfectly," she cut in,
"That's why I chose to visit you because there's something I see in you I don't see in other humans.
I have spoken to many people including my friends and family members but none of them were able to see or even hear me.
But you can see and even hear me clearly, that's why I approached you.
If you're wondering how I was able to enter the bus.
Well, I borrowed that body from a môrgue with the help of a necromancer.
Sam, my spirit is réstless, and that's how it'll continue to be till I get véngeance!!!"

Episode 4
"Sam, my spirit is r£stless, and that's how it will continue to be till I get vêngeànce, please help me."
"What do you want me to do?
I don't even know the cúlprit in person neither do I know his address, even if I know him and his residence, will I just go and challenge him that he k¡lled someone? I'm sure know what would be my fate if I embark on such a journey of stúpidity" I poured out my mind in confusion and she remained silent for quite some time.
"I will not let you go alone,
I will be following you to give you directions on what to do,"
she elucidated.
"Kokorokooo! Kokorokooo!" Cocks crowed and I slowly opened my eyes,
Behold it was a beautiful morning,
I scanned the entire room and found Aria quietly sitting in a corner of the room.
"Wait, is this how you've been since last night?" I asked unbelievably.
"Yes," she replied with a calm voice, her face mean and motionless.
"Why didn't you sleep?" I asked,
"Only mortal has the ability to sleep," she replied making me a bit confused,
"What do you mean ?" I asked anxiously,
"Once a person closes the eyes and the spirit departs from the body, there's nothing like sleep again, have you ever had a dream where you're sleeping in your dream?"
When she asked this question,
I thought carefully, trying to recall any time I had ever seen myself sleeping in my dream but couldn't even remember one, so I answered,
"No".
"Well," she continued.
"Sleep and de@th are just the same, the difference is that sleeping is a process whereby the spirit leaves the body for a brief moment while de@th is a situation whereby the spirit leaves and never returns.
"Hmmm," I heaved after she was done speaking.
"That so-called Jeff deserves the wôrst in this life,
He deserves to rôt in jàil,
In fact, let's be going right away, " I voiced ángrily.
"Do you know where we're going right now? "She asked.
"No, "I replied expectantly,
"To a police station," she announced, making my heart skip.
"Huh, police station, what for? "I exclaimed fearfully.
"To file a report, of course, that's the first thing to do," she explained.
"Hmmm, I haven't done anything like this before."
"Do not worry, I will be with you throughout to tell you everything you need to do," she explained.
"Good morning officers," I greeted as I entered the police station.
"How are you doing boy, what brought you to the police station this morning?" One of them asked without looking up from the file his eyes were glued to.
"I'm fine sir, I have come to make the report of a crïme that was committed 12 months ago, "I replied.
"That's suitably a year now, right? "He asked.
"Yessir," I replied
He asked for my name, my age, and my residence and finally told me to proceed to report the case.
I cleared my throat and started speaking,
"One year ago, a girl by the name: Aria Johnson was reportedly missing, the search for her was launched but no one was able to know her whereabouts since then.
The case was aborted because no one was able to get any relevant information about her.
But the cûlprit is no other person than her boyfriend,
"He used her for môney ritûal by r@ping her to de@th." When I was done speaking, the officer who was noting down my report removed his transparent spectacle and hit both hands on the table, to buy my full attention.
"Look here boy," He commanded, his eyeballs pointing directly into mine.
"Are you sure of what you're talking about?
Make sure you're telling the truth because if we find out you're lying, we'll let you know that the Police is only friend of responsible people."
When he said that, fear gripped my heart,
"What do I tell them?"I asked Aria who stood behind me.
"Tell them, you'll show them my body in his house," She replied,
"Who are you talking to? "
One of the officers asked.
"It's Aria, she said that I should tell you, people, that I will take you to Jeff's house." It was when I had already finished speaking that I remembered I was the only one who could see or communicate with Aria.
"Ahh!" I exclaimed in Yoruba tone, realizing that I had made the greatest mistake and there seemed to be no remedy.
On hearing this, the officer who noted down my report furiously tore it out and tore it in pieces.
"Officer Mark!" He called with a ráging voice.
"Show sir." The Officer I identified to be the officer Mark rushed into the Officer saluted.
"Why did you allow a person in need of a psychiatrist's attention to walk into this place?" The one who noted down my report yélled at him.
"I'm sorry Sir, I had no idea, his character and conduct seemed normal when he came." Officer Mike apologized.
It was at this point that I realized they were talking about me,
"Please, I'm not màd, I don't need any psychiatrist's attention, I'm only trying to help an innocent get jûstice." I pleaded shakingly.
"Look at what someone is saying and you're saying you had no idea, take him out, lock him up in the cèll, and contact a psychiatrist immediately!" The one who noted down my report yèlled ángrily.
"No! I'm not mád, I know what I'm saying!" With this exclamation, I quickly turned to run but two officers mysteriously appeared from nowhere and séized me.
"No! Leave me! I'm not mád!" I kept on scréaming and strûggling as they carried me away.
Before I knew it, I had already been thrown in and locked up in a stînky room. "I'm not mád! Let me out! I'm only helping an innocent girl get her révenge and rest in peace, Open up!" I kept on scréaming, while hîtting iron door with all my strength, hoping they would hear me out and come to open it but nobody showed up.
After a very long time of hîtting the door and scréaming, I sat down on the floor with my back resting on the door as I brôke down in tears.
"I can't believe I used my own feet to walk myself into a police cèll all in the name of helping an innocent girl get jûstice and now she is nowhere to be found,"
"Aria! Aria! Aria! You can't just abandôn like this, Aria!" I criéd and criéd and criéd but there was no trace of her.
