World leaders speak out on biased UNSC resolution; New Zealand waits

While the passing of the controversial UNSC Resolution 2334 on the eve of Christmas and Hanukkah went under the radar of many, a number of world leaders have spoken out. Even members of Obama’s own party are appalled at the stance taken by the United States; UK Prime Minister Theresa May has rebuked John Kerry for focussing on Israeli settlements; and Australia, a country without a seat at the Security Council, has called the resolution “one-sided” and “deeply unsettling”. However, New Zealand Prime Minister Bill English is yet to comment, despite repeated calls for him to do so.

Fifteen countries sit on the United Nations Security Council. On 24 December 2016 (NZT), when resolution 2334 was adopted, half of the ten non-permanent members were considered “Free” democracies by the UK based Economist Intelligence Unit.

New Zealand had the highest Democracy Index of all fifteen nations, yet joined Venezuela (a “Hybrid regime”), Senegal, and Malaysia (both “Flawed democracies”) to co-sponsor the text prepared by Egypt (“Authoritarian”).

Regardless of how democratic a country is, the votes at the UNSC are cast by individual representatives who may not be fully supported by the citizens they represent. There are suggestions that New Zealand Foreign Minister, Murray McCully, did not seek cabinet approval before sponsoring or voting for the text. There is also evidence to suggest the United States colluded with the Palestinians and Egypt to formulate the text of the resolution, despite US denial.

United States President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry abandoned a longstanding practice of using the US veto power against biased resolutions when they abstained from the vote, prompting bipartisan outrage from congress. The US also allegedly helped develop the text, which would include abandonment of longstanding US policies, including land-for-peace, opposing the discriminatory BDS movement, and insisting that the parties to the conflict must resolve their differences.

Despite UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson casting the UK vote for the resolution, Prime Minister Theresa May has spoken out against the aggressive and biased rhetoric of Obama and John Kerry in their “lame duck” period. She said:

We do not believe that the way to negotiate peace is by focusing on only one issue, in this case the construction of settlements, when clearly the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians is so deeply complex… The [UK] Government believes that negotiations will only succeed when they are conducted between the two parties, supported by the international community”
Theresa May

Russia was another country that voted for the resolution but, after the vote, issued a statement criticizing the way it was brought to the Security Council, in a surprise move just a day after Egypt pulled its own proposal on the matter. The Russian statement said

Our experience shows convincingly that a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is only possible through direct talks between Palestinians and Israelis without any preconditions.”
Russian government

Not all nations have waded into commentary on the anti-Israel resolution. However, Australia – a country that does not have a seat at the Security Council – has condemned the resolution. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull affirmed his country’s support for a peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians, which he said could only come about through direct negotiations between the parties, a stance Israel has repeatedly put forward. This follows Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop saying Canberra “has consistently not supported one-sided resolutions targeting Israel” and would have voted against resolution 2234. This is consistent with an interview Bishop gave in 2014, in which she said West Bank settlements should not be referred to as “illegal” and

I don’t think it’s helpful to prejudge the settlement issue if you’re trying to get a negotiated solution. And by deeming the activity as a war crime, it’s unlikely to engender a negotiated solution.”
Julie Bishop

The only democratic country to be more fiercely opposed to the resolution is Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the resolution in the symbolic act of lighting Hannukah candles at the Western Wall (which the resolution considers part of “occupied Palestinian territories”). He reportedly said “Israel is strong, and I won’t let us be spit on. We will respond forcefully.” Israel has also recalled ambassadors to Senegal and New Zealand.

The less-than-democratic world leaders have praised the resolution. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar not only welcomed the resolution but also praised John Kerry for the proposal that Theresa May rebuked. Fatah has publicly thanked the Security Council for the resolution, using a cartoon of Israel being used as a knife and Hamas also praised the resolution, with a spokesperson saying

We expect further support for the Palestinians’ righteous cause of ending the occupation.”
Fawzi Barhoum

While all these leaders have spoken out, Kiwis wait. Even though New Zealand co-sponsored the text and voted for the resolution, Kiwis wait for comment from their leaders. Despite protests, a letter to the Prime Minister and petitions, concerned New Zealanders wait for a response from their Prime Minister.

There is a heavy panic in Abuja Nigerian sit of power, following the news of the foreign bodies who are set to observe the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People Of Biafra IPOB. A credible source within Justice Binta Nyako's residence revealed the phone conversation between the female judge and the former Governor of River State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who represents Mohammadu Buhari. According to the source, Justice Binta was quoted as telling the former Governor of Rivers State; 'Oga Rotimi, this Nnamdi matter is gradually exceeding my capacity, with the presence of these foreign observers, Oga Rotimi my hands are tied o, the agreement was that the matter will be tried in secret, local and international media bared. If these foreign observers are allowed to participate, Oga, I may tour the path of Justice John Tosho'

IPOB voice have indeed echoed to the length and breadth of the known world, awakening the consciousness of the world, reminding them their duty and urging them to rise up to their responsibility. Hence, some countries have decided to break their silent, acknowledging that a grave injustice have being done against the Biafrans, that the Biafrans have suffered death and imprisonment both now and in the past in the hands of British and Nigeria government and that the time is now when the people of Biafra shall be free. These well meaning countries, in their bid to assist the Indigenous People Of Biafra IPOB, have send various bodies such as; International Human Right groups, International Media Organizations and other foreign observers to observe the January 10th 2017 court proceeding of the leader of IPOB Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in order to obtain a firsthand information for their respective countries.

On the other hand, the Buhari led Nigeria government, having received the response from Justice Binta Nyako were said to have insisted that the female judge must continue with the case, stressing that withdrawal of too many judges is an indication that the defendant is innocent. Continuing, Family Writers privy source added that president Muhammadu Buhari reacted angrily before the former Governor and other caucus members, threatening to ensure that Justice Binta Nyako goes the way of Justice Adeniyi Ademola, Justice Ngwuta and other arrested judge by DSS if she deviate from presidency direct instruction of jailing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The source further explain that the female judge additional punishment shall includes, jailing of her husband, former Governor of Adamawa and her son whom he(Buhari) has earlier promise to release if she cooperate and jail IPOB leader.

The panicked president was said to have being extremely disturbed, he was afraid the international community could officially declare Mazi Nnamdi Kanu a Prisoner Of Conscience POS should Justice Binta finally withdraw, this fear prompted him(Buhari) to immediately send his bribery negotiator, former Governor Chibuike Amaechi to Justice Binta to outline the presidential order and threat with regards to IPOB leader's case.

Meanwhile, IPOB worldwide have laugh at the barbaric approach of Muhammadu Buhuri and Justice Binta. It baffled IPOB that Buhari and Justice Binta are shivering because of a mere visiting international bodies, when their leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has commence the release of the 'Classified' documentaries of genocide committed against the Biafrans by British government and Nigeria, which will form part of the evidence that these visiting foreign bodies will take back to their respective countries.

THERE CAN NEVER BE NIGER DELTA WITHOUT BIAFRA, IF YOU WANT PEACE, RELEASE NNAMDI KANU --- NDPDF

Published by Family Writers

The leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Democratic Front, General Playboy, has said the promise by the Federal Government to pay the backlog of allowances owed ex-militants will not stop the Niger Delta struggle.

General Playboy said in a statement on Saturday that the Niger Delta struggle was beyond the stipends being paid former militants.

He added that most of those benefitting from such allowances were not part of the oil-rich region’s struggle.

“The problem of Niger Delta is not about paying stipends or allowances to former militants. Some of the people, who embraced amnesty, were not the real agitators and so, they are not part of the struggle,” the militant said.

Maintaining that there cannot be Niger Delta without Biafra, the militant leader expressed the need for the Federal Government to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

“The Niger Delta issue is beyond the payment of backlog of allowances. That is not what we are looking for. If you want peace, release Nnamdi Kanu. There can never be Niger Delta without Biafra.

“The Federal Government should face the real issue. Allowance payment or declaring a new amnesty programme is not the issue.

He said further, “For President Buhari to continue to hold Nnamdi Kanu, even when the whole world has told him to release him, shows that he (President) is not ready for peace.”
