The Deputy Senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has described the victory of Donald Trump in the US presidential election as a historic victory for the world.

Ike Ekweremadu, in a congratulatory message to Donald Trump has also commended Hilary Clinton of the Democratic Party for calling to concede the presidency to her rival and congratulating him on his hard-worn victory, Daily Post reports.

“Mr. Trump has rightly described the election as historic. But it is not only historic for the U.S, but also for the world. It is an important reminder to the entire world of the true meaning and essence of democracy as government of the people,” Ekweremadu said.

“I urge him to work for democracy, global peace and prosperity because the peace and prosperity of America is intrinsic in that of the entire world.

Ekweremadu called for better bilateral deals for Nigeria by the incoming Donald Trump presidency, adding that the people of Nigeria and indeed the Peoples Democratic Party are willing and ready to work with the incoming U.S government for the good of both nations.

The Senator also enjoined emerging democracies, including Nigeria, to emulate the democratic and transparent nature of the U.S election, noting that the will of the people and respect for democratic principles must be allowed at all times.

“We have many lessons to learn from the American presidential election. It was highly democratic, transparent, peaceful, and free of intimidation, willful manipulations, contrived security scares; and it was absolutely conclusive, even though the ruling party was losing, and eventually lost,” Ekweremadu said.

Donald Trump from the Republican party defeated Hillary Clinton from the Democratic Party to win the US presidential election on Wednesday, November 9, in stunning victory that sent shockwaves around the world.

The Republican took the key swing states of Florida, North Carolina and Ohio early this morning, as he marched towards the White House.

Meanwhile, there is serious fear across the world that a Donald Trump as president of the United States of America would quicken tension between America and many countries.

Though Trump, in reaction to his victory, had said he would be a president to all Americans, citizens of the US, many have expressed fear over his victory.

Many of them, just like their colleagues in other parts of the world are ‘mourning’ and saying it is just a payback for an eight-year rule by President Barack Obama, a black man, just as Trump’s supporters have continued to celebrate.
