BREAKING: Hours After Denying Killing Biafra Agitators, Nigerian Army Loses Another Top Commander In Boko Haram Ambush

Another top Nigerian soldier has been confirmed dead after a Boko Haram ambush from which he was initially injured.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, November 23, by Major General Lucky Irabor, the commander of the Nigerian Army in the north east, the military confirmed the death of BU Umar, while another lieutenant identified as Muktar, was confirmed dead during the ambush by the insurgents.

“On 15 Nov 16 at about 0930hrs own troops while on patrol to MUBI encountered an IED explosion along Bitta – Pirang road and thereafter were ambushed by BHT”, Mr. Irabor, a major general, said, according to the text of a press conference he delivered on Wednesday.

“Troops successfully cleared the ambush after a fight and unfortunately the Commanding Officer, Lt Col BU Umar lost his life on the spot. Subsequently, Lt Muktar also died in the hospital where 8 others soldiers who are wounded in action were receiving treatment. The wounded soldiers have been responding to treatment.

“In all the operations, a total of 5,235 people were rescued from the BHT,” his statement read in part.

While explaining the reason for the recent successes recorded by the insurgents, the Army commander said: “The impact of recent bombings in Maiduguri, though sad and unfortunate, was minimal due to the alertness of troops and other security agencies.

“Apart from the one wherein 2 CJTF personnel were killed and some others wounded, only the terrorists died, while one was captured alive. The captured suicide bomber is assisting in the investigation into cases of suicide bombings.

“The incidents are only indicative of a weakened and defeated BHT. Their ignoble adventure is destined to fail totally.”

Recall that Nigerians were thrown into a state of serious mourning when Lieutenant Colonel Abu Ali was killed alongside six other soldiers under his watch.

Barely two weeks after, the report about the death of Lt Col BU Umar sent shock waves across the country as well, as the Nigerian troops continued to be defeated by renewed and emphatic Boko Haram attacks.

Furthermore, this report is coming barely hours after Amnesty International accused the Nigerian soldiers of killing over 150 pro-Biafran agitators during different protests carried out in the eastern part of the country.

The Nigerian army has denied killing members of the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State Of Biafra (MASSO and the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPO and accused them of committing heinous crimes.

In a statement by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman who is the spokesperson of the army, he reacted to a planned release of Amnesty International that reportedly accused the army of carry out extra-judicial killing of member of the separatist groups.

BIAFRA: BUHARI SENDS JUSTICE BINTA NYAKO A LETTER TO RELEASE NNAMDI KANU ONLY ON HIS ORDER - REPORT

By Ifeanyi Chijioke
November 24, 2016

“From our reliable sources, we can confirm without any atom of doubt that Buhari is working tirelessly to influence Justice Binta Nyako, he is adamant that Nnamdi Kanu will be bailed only when he wants or orders” Biafra intelligence team wrote to the media wing in their weekly debriefing. To buttress their claim; they further cited some actions that have been taken so far by Buhari. “We intercepted a letter signed by Buhari himself and delivered through the DSS; urging Justice Binta Nyako to release Nnamdi Kanu only when he wants, claiming that the matter is beyond the Court” they said and promised to dig deeper.

“They have invited her on numerous occasions and when she declined; they went to her home but she declined to open up to them. She is denying them access and they are angling for a desperate measure to conform her. The letter was sent after she declined all their advances, a letter with presidential seal and we could not have access to the content after much effort. The Judge strongly feels that there is no argument that can continue to keep Nnmadi Kanu in detention. The counter affidavit to the Court only has national security threat phrase, which was merely said and cannot be buttressed; that was evident that Nnamd Kanu will be granted bail and that is why the pressure is so much and we fear she might not stand it” the report further disclosed.

“There is pressure on Justice Binta Nyako; she has tried to fight down and avoid some calls and appointments, she has tried to be unbiased but we cannot assure anything. Buhari is trying everything he could to make sure Nnamdi Kanu’s case is influenced and he seems to be getting his will done. The trial Judge blatantly refused to caution the security forces who forcefully stopped the public and Biafran Journalists from coming into the Court with devices to capture what is going on in the Court” the report said.

“The failure of the trial Judge to stand her ground on ordinary issue like that shows IPOB leader might be in for another war against corruption just as Tosho was fought. There might have been a compromise; arresting and harassing Journalists that came to the Court without the Court reacting to that is a bad omen. I also heard reports about the Judge; where she was unfair to the counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, not allowing them to land any time they are on a high. It is a disturbing thing; to me there is nothing or reason to keep holding Nnamdi Kanu in detention. He should be released and this will

BE ASSURED YOU CONSUME THE AMNESTY REPORT RELEASED TODAY!!! Take a copy to every World Representative, Media house, every Local Government Official, your Twitter, Social media, spread this report to every corner of the earth!!! Share Share Share..
WHY?
1) Amnesty International report is laden with facts, proof and evidence. Where is the proof in the allegations being peddled by the Nigeria Army in their supposed counter.
2) The response of Nigeria has exposed the style of thinking associated with corrupt leadership in Africa. Amnesty International report was forensic and well researched in Biafra and Nigeria. The Nigerian Government was given ample time to respond but failed to do so because what can they say? Instead they chose to corrupt Nigerian media into peddling lies for them.
3) The lack of Freedom of Speech and Protection of Journalists in Africa along with the obvious corruption, is the reason why the entire continent is in moral darkness. Why did Vanguard, Guardian, Punch and the other main stream Nigerian media houses not demand for proof of allegations from the Nigerian Army of their response to Amnesty International?
4) The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPO organised and carried out only peaceful gatherings where they were massacred. Amnesty has researched its facts others must research and base their reports only on verifiable facts. The truth will stand!!!
The question now is to the Nigerian Army and newspaper houses show us the proof that the IPOB was involved in any violence!!!!!

NUC grants provisional license to eight private universities in Nigeria.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) on Tuesday granted provisional licenses to the eight newly approved private universities to run degree programmes.

Executive Secretary (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, presented the certificates to representatives of the eight universities at the headquarters of the commission in Abuja.

He warned proprietors of the universities against subjecting their academic staff to degrading treatment and all forms of practices inimical to democratic freedom.

All but one of the newly licensed universities is located in the southern part of the country, bringing the total number of universities in the country to 152.

The ES said the NUC issued provisional licences to the universities after a rigorous assessment exercise, adding that the commission was fully satisfied of the facilities on ground in terms of human and material resources.

He however warned that what have been issued are provisional licenses which may be withdrawn in the event of poor performance or breach of standards.

“What is being issued today is a provisional license with a lifespan of three years. In line with global best practice, the new universities would be mentored by older ones for the next couple of years.

“The NUC will assist these eight universities to commence new programmes to make them different in some areas from the older ones.

“Dictatorship in the running of a university would not be tolerated and this you must avoid at all cost,” he said.

In his address, Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, said Nigeria needs more universities to increase access to tertiary education.

According to him, the 152 universities in the country today are grossly inadequate to meet the demands of tertiary education.

“With these 8, it means the ratio of the universities in relation to population is 1 for 23 million people, a challenge that must be addressed, considering the huge population of Nigeria conservatively put at 170 million today,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman, Standing Committee on Private Universities (SCOPU), Prof. Akaneren Essien, congratulated the new institutions for scaling the difficult hurdle involved in issuance of provisional licenses, noting that all eight universities are ready for students to commence their academic activities.

According to him, the process of getting the license took between two to fourteen years, recalling with pain the death of some SCOPU members in the 2012 Dana plane crash while on assessment of four of the universities even as he prayed God to grant their souls eternal rest in peace.

The newly licensed private universities are Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos State (owned by the Deeper Christian Life Ministry); Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State (owned by Clitter House Nigeria Limited); Clifford University, Owerrinta, Abia State (owned by the Seventh Day Adventist Church); Coal City University, Enugu, Enugu State (owned by ATCOICOE Nigeria Limited).

Others are Crown-Hill University, Eiyenkorin, Kwara State (owned by Modern Morgy and Sons Limited); Dominican University, Ibadan, Oyo State (owned by the Order of Preachers, Nigeria, Dominican Community); Kola Daisi University, Ibadan, Oyo State (owned the Kola Daisi Foundation); and Legacy University, Okija, Anambra State (owned by the Good Idea Education Foundation).

Nigerian Navy deploys troops to fight Boko Haram

The Nigerian Military said on Wednesday that it deployed Naval troops to Borno as part of its renewed efforts to end the Boko Haram terrorism in the North-East.

The Theater Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Lucky Irabor, a Maj. Gen., told journalists in Maiduguri that the troops were inducted into the theater as the maritime component to strengthen its operation.

“The advance party for the maritime component of Operation Lafiya Dole has been inducted into the theater on September 8,” he said.

“They will be deployed at Naval Outpost in Baga and will later operate around the fringes of Nigerian side of the Lake Chad.

“However, they are now temporarily accommodated at the Federal College of Fresh Water and Fishery Technology in Baga, awaiting arrival of the main body and other logistics.

“Currently, they are conducting patrols in conjunction with troops of Multi-National Joint Task Force in Baga,” he said.

The commander said the troops of the theater recorded successes in clearing Boko Haram insurgents under its “Operation KARYA GWIWA’’.

“On October 28, our troops commenced clearing operations on two axis to clear and destroy insurgents along Golgore, Doksa, Ajigin and environs.

“The troops located a terrorist’s camp and on sighting the team, they fled the camp abandoning seven motorcycles, five bicycles, a desert camouflage and a large quantity of drugs.

“All the recovered items were destroyed and during the operations, 37 terrorists were killed while two officers and five soldiers were wounded and a member of the vigilante died, during the offensive operation.

“On October 29, our troops continued their advance and later came under Boko Haram ambush at Ugundiri, where five soldiers sustained gunshot wounds.

“Two anti-aircraft guns were recovered from the terrorists and a gun truck was destroyed,” he said.

Facebook reportedly builds censorship tool for possible return to China

Facebook has developed technology that could finally make its service palatable to Chinese authorities, who have blocked it since 2009.

The social network giant has quietly built a tool for blocking certain posts from showing up in feeds of users in some regions, according to a report from the New York Times, citing anonymous sources. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly a strong supporter of the tool, which could be used to censor politically sensitive content in China.

Facebook would delegate control over which content to suppress to a third-party, most likely a Chinese business partner, according to the report. The partner would be able to see which stories or content users are sharing and then decide whether those posts should show up in Chinese users’ feeds.

While software for the tool can be seen by Facebook employees on their internal system, it’s still merely one of many experiments the company has considered as part of a push to get into China and may never be officially released, notes the report. Some employees who worked on the tool have since left Facebook after expressing concerns about the project.

Rumors of this tool come at a particularly awkward time for Facebook. The company has been heavily criticized since the recent U.S. presidential election for failing to curtail the spread of false news articles on its network about the candidates. Initially, the company defended itself by saying that it’s merely a technology company and that it doesn’t want to police what users post and share. However, Facebook has since softened its stance by saying it would explore ways to cut back on fake news.

Facebook’s development of censorship tools is driving at least partly by the potential riches of re-entering China.

“We have long said that we are interested in China, and are spending time understanding and learning more about the country. However, we have not made any decision on our approach to China,” a Facebook spokesperson told Fortune in a statement. “Our focus right now is

IPND Bill of Rights: Declaration 08 - Position on the Call for the the Restoration of Biafra Republic...

The Indigenous People of Niger Delta (IPND) has over the past 18 months watched the unfolding identity crisis befalling Nigeria as it affects the basis of continuous coexistence and the call for restoration of Biafra Republic. We have watched closely with keen interest and have made far reaching consultations with our leaders, youths and women on state of the Nigerian union and the way forward:

Firstly we must state here that the indigenous people of Niger Delta worked so hard in the founding of Nigeria but the Nigeria we have today is definitely not the dream Nigeria of our forefathers. This is not the Nigeria of dream of our most visionary and highly idealistic monarch of blessed memory; H.R.M. Esezi II, The Orodje of Okpe; who was amongst delegates of Kings that attended the 1957 Lyttelton Conference held in London in order to seek the Nigerian independence from the indirect government of the colonial master. The Nigeria we have today is not the Nigeria of dream of Late Pa. Anthony Anahoro who was the first to move for the independence of Nigeria which was eventually granted in 1960 after several political setbacks and defeats in parliament. As IPND we are proud of the fact that our Late Father, Pa Anthony Enahoro has been regarded by academics and many Nigerians as the "Father of Nigeria State". However, we recall in history that his motion for Nigeria's Independence suffered setbacks in parliament on several occasions with the northern members of parliament staging a walkout as a consequence of the motion. Instead of nationalizing through continuous dialogue and agreement between the different indigenous people in Nigeria, what we have today is a state based on unity by force.

For the avoidance of doubt, we have to clearly state here that the indigenous people of Niger Delta (IPND) hold and share solid cultural affinity, ideology and religious beliefs with our Igbo brothers (Ndi-Igbo) of south easterner Nigeria. As a fact, we have Igbos from Delta, Imo, Abia and Rivers State who are from the Niger Delta Region, hence we cannot sit down and fold our hands with our mouths closed as the Nigerian Government continue to use the military to massacre our armless brothers who are only calling for restoration of Biafra Republic which form part of their fundamental human rights. We must state here that the Indigenous People of Niger Delta have good knowledge about the history of Biafra and also the impact of the Biafran War in Niger Delta Region. Therefore for the avoidance of repeating the mistakes of the past we hereby call on the Government of Nigeria in strong terms to unconditionally and forthwith set free the current icon of the Biafra struggle, Namdi Kanu as he is only agitating for self-determination as stipulated in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of 2007. It is our strong belief that Nigeria Government cannot achieve peaceful coexistence between the different indigenous people and nations that make up the Nigerian State by force as there is no such a thing as unity by force. Thus, we hereby call on the Government of the Federal Republic Nigeria and the United Nations to as a matter of National and Global emergency convoke a Sovereign National Conference for the different ethnic nationalities in Nigeria to discuss modalities of continues coexistence.

Finally; we commend IPOB for the peaceful manner they have been going about the agitation for the restoration of Biafra Republic and we hereby urge them to continue to explore the non-violence approach in the pursue of their course until the Government of Nigeria and the UN shall convoke a Sovereign National Conference for the different ethnic nationalities in Nigeria to discuss modalities of contineous coexistence.
