We have come to a point Mr President should invite leaders in this country for a meeting to discuss how to solve our problems. ”

On the issue of Biafra, he said, ” Igbo are majority in this country and they cannot leave. We are Biafrans, Biafrans are Nigerians. It is the same way we have Arewa and Oduduwa.

GENOCIDE ALERT!!! Army, Navy Shoot 14 In Delta Communities; Mainly Women And Children, 3 Residents Missing

EIGHT villagers at Sand Field 1 and 2, popularly known as Warri Corner, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, were hit by stray bullets when men of the Nigeria Navy, NNS Base, Warri, Delta State, shot sporadically into the air while allegedly testing their weapons on Thursday.

The Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC, in a statement, yesterday, described the random shootings as irresponsible In a related development, the Niger Delta Peace Movement, NDPM, has raised the alarm that mother and two children were missing , while six persons were seriously injured in an aerial bombardment of a fishing settlement in Burutu by troops of Operation Delta Safe, earlier same day.

National president of FHRAAC, Alaowei Cleric, said in Warri: “About eight persons hit by stray bullets have been hospitalised in different health centres across Delta State.

We cannot believe that the men of the Nigerian Navy were only testing their weapons.” Pointing out that the shooting was deliberate, the group said: “The unprovoked attack on Naifors Island, popularly known as Sand Field 1 and 2 by the men of the Nigerian Navy from the NNS Base, Warri is the height of human inhumanity to mankind.

The excuse that they were only testing their weapons sounds unprofessional.” “This is highly ridiculous as the Navy seems to be telling the world that it does not know the difference between testing weapon and attacking enemies.

How on earth can testing the military weaponry result to sacking an entire community, which has inflicted grievous injuries on the innocent and peace-loving settlers in the Island?

“This is a manifestation of the Federal Government’s agenda to wipe out the Niger Delta communities from planet earth ostensibly to allow it have free access to the oil.

We hope that the world is seeing these systematic invasions of Niger Delta communities whose offence is that they have oil in their lands,” it said.

The group asserted: “We can safely say that a silent genocide is going on in the Niger Delta. For the military to absolve itself of any culpability, let it set up an independent panel of inquiry to ascertain the truth.

Let those unprofessional and trigger-happy military men be brought to book.” On the bombardments of Okosugbene settlement in Burutu area by the men of Operation Delta Safe, the group said: “The military ought to have adhered to the rule of engagement.

Its operation has hospitalised more than three persons, who are innocent fisher men and women.”

“From our findings, Okosugbene is known to be a fishing camp which has been in existence from time immemorial.

If there is any militant camp close to the village, the military ought to have separated the militants camp from the village.

The casualties of the military bombardments of the village are women and their children.

“We have reliably gathered that Master Wisdom Ekeremo, 5 years and Miss Paulina Maika were hit by the bullets of the invading military, while Mrs Apunu Akaraowei is missing.

The entire fishing village has been brought to rubble by the aerial bombardments. We have not heard of any militant casualty, which ought to have been the target of the military, the group asserted.

TO MY OLD MASTER:

In August of 1865, a Colonel P.H. Anderson of Big Spring, Tennessee, wrote to his former slave, Jourdon Anderson, and requested that he come back to work on his farm. Jourdon — who, since being emancipated, had moved to Ohio, found paid work, and was now supporting his family — responded spectacularly by way of the letter seen below (a letter which, according to newspapers at the time, he dictated).

Rather than quote the numerous highlights in this letter, I'll simply leave you to enjoy it. Do make sure you read to the end.

UPDATE: Head over to Kottke for a brief but lovely little update about the later years of Jourdon and family.

Dayton, Ohio,

August 7, 1865

To My Old Master, Colonel P.H. Anderson, Big Spring, Tennessee

Sir: I got your letter, and was glad to find that you had not forgotten Jourdon, and that you wanted me to come back and live with you again, promising to do better for me than anybody else can. I have often felt uneasy about you. I thought the Yankees would have hung you long before this, for harboring Rebs they found at your house. I suppose they never heard about your going to Colonel Martin's to kill the Union soldier that was left by his company in their stable. Although you shot at me twice before I left you, I did not want to hear of your being hurt, and am glad you are still living. It would do me good to go back to the dear old home again, and see Miss Mary and Miss Martha and Allen, Esther, Green, and Lee. Give my love to them all, and tell them I hope we will meet in the better world, if not in this. I would have gone back to see you all when I was working in the Nashville Hospital, but one of the neighbors told me that Henry intended to shoot me if he ever got a chance.

I want to know particularly what the good chance is you propose to give me. I am doing tolerably well here. I get twenty-five dollars a month, with victuals and clothing; have a comfortable home for Mandy,—the folks call her Mrs. Anderson,—and the children—Milly, Jane, and Grundy—go to school and are learning well. The teacher says Grundy has a head for a preacher. They go to Sunday school, and Mandy and me attend church regularly. We are kindly treated. Sometimes we overhear others saying, "Them colored people were slaves" down in Tennessee. The children feel hurt when they hear such remarks; but I tell them it was no disgrace in Tennessee to belong to Colonel Anderson. Many darkeys would have been proud, as I used to be, to call you master. Now if you will write and say what wages you will give me, I will be better able to decide whether it would be to my advantage to move back again.

As to my freedom, which you say I can have, there is nothing to be gained on that score, as I got my free papers in 1864 from the Provost-Marshal-General of the Department of Nashville. Mandy says she would be afraid to go back without some proof that you were disposed to treat us justly and kindly; and we have concluded to test your sincerity by asking you to send us our wages for the time we served you. This will make us forget and forgive old scores, and rely on your justice and friendship in the future. I served you faithfully for thirty-two years, and Mandy twenty years. At twenty-five dollars a month for me, and two dollars a week for Mandy, our earnings would amount to eleven thousand six hundred and eighty dollars. Add to this the interest for the time our wages have been kept back, and deduct what you paid for our clothing, and three doctor's visits to me, and pulling a tooth for Mandy, and the balance will show what we are in justice entitled to. Please send the money by Adams's Express, in care of V. Winters, Esq., Dayton, Ohio. If you fail to pay us for faithful labors in the past, we can have little faith in your promises in the future. We trust the good Maker has opened your eyes to the wrongs which you and your fathers have done to me and my fathers, in making us toil for you for generations without recompense. Here I draw my wages every Saturday night; but in Tennessee there was never any pay-day for the negroes any more than for the horses and cows. Surely there will be a day of reckoning for those who defraud the laborer of his hire.

In answering this letter, please state if there would be any safety for my Milly and Jane, who are now grown up, and both good-looking girls. You know how it was with poor Matilda and Catherine. I would rather stay here and starve—and die, if it come to that—than have my girls brought to shame by the violence and wickedness of their young masters. You will also please state if there has been any schools opened for the colored children in your neighborhood. The great desire of my life now is to give my children an education, and have them form virtuous habits.

Say howdy to George Carter, and thank him for taking the pistol from you when you were shooting at me.

From your old servant,

Jourdon Anderson.

DESPICABLE: As Israel Burns, Kuwait's Grand Mosque Imam, Other Arabians & Palestinians Celebrate

As Israel battles wildfires which have spread into the country’s third largest city of Haifa, the state’s detractors have celebrated the devastation.

The fires, some of which are believed to have been started deliberately, have engulfed large areas of central and northern parts of the country, forcing over 80,000 people to flee their homes.

As the crisis unfolded, hashtags including “Tel_Aviv_IsBurning” and “Israel_IsBurning” proliferated on social media.

The imam of Kuwait's Grand Mosque, Sheikh Mishary Alfasy Rashid, stoked outrage by tweeting “All the best to the fire”, to his 11.6 million followers, and included pictures of flames and burning buildings.
The incendiary post received over 20,000 retweets in less than 24 hours.

Ofir Gendelman, the Israeli prime minister’s spokesperson for the Arab media, addressed the abuse on Twitter.

“Arabs & Palestinians on social media rejoice over the wildfires that have erupted across Israel. Despicable fanatic hatred. #Israelisburning”

Four Palestinian firefighting teams will join the effort to combat the fires in Israel.
Russia, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Croatia and Cyprus are all also helping fight the blaze, while America has agreed to send a Boeing 747 “Supertanker” firefighting plane.

Israel’s chief of police has blamed the fires on arson attacks, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said such an attack would be treated as terrorism.

Israeli police said on Friday they had arrested 12 people on suspicion of arson.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Reuters a dozen people had been detained either while attempting to set fires or fleeing the area, but he provided no further details.

Internal Security Minister Gilad Erdan said they were “minorities”, an allusion to either Arab Israeli citizens or Palestinians.

“The highest likelihood is that the motive is nationalistic,” Mr Erdan told Army Radio.

The fires in the immediate area around Haifa are now understood to be under control.

Anxiety As TY Danjuma Is Flown Abroad For Treatment

Retired military general Theophilus Danjuma has been flown out of Nigeria in an air ambulance, Sahara Reporters writes.

Danjuma, family sources were quoted as saying, fell seriously ill that he had to be flown out for medical care abroad.

Family sources are however, not sure of where exactly he has been flown to for treatment, but Sahara Reporters says there are strong indications that he might have been taken to Germany.

It quoted a close friend of Danjuma’s wife Daisy as saying that General Danjuma only had a slight malaria for which he is receiving treatment in the UAE.

The source claimed Danjuma is expected back in Nigeria on Tuesday, November 29.

The retired military officer, who has served in various capacities in government and also in the oil industry, is one of Nigeria’s richest retired military general.

Recall that following the failure to end violence in the Niger Delta despite various efforts by the current administration, President Muhammadu Buhari just recently mandated retired Lt Gen Theophilus Danjuma to help in this regard.

Danjuma was Chief of Army Staff between July 1975 and October 1979 and is now heading the Niger Delta Riverine Protection Programme to end the continued spate of bombings in the oil-rich region of the country by agitators.

BRITAIN'S TSUNAMI TIME BOMB: Top scientist warns KILLER WAVE could hit UK – at ANY MOMENT
A DEVASTATING tsunami could smash into Britain’s coast at any time, causing horrifying death and destruction, a scientist has warned.

Dr Simon Day said a huge landslide at an increasingly unstable volcano in the Canary Islands could send the huge wave speeding hundreds of miles across the Atlantic to the UK.

The natural disaster expert at the University College London told Express.co.uk the disastrous event is becoming increasingly likely - and urged Theresa May to prepare before it is too late.

He said the Cumbre Vieja volcano in the Canaries archipelago was becoming increasingly fragile, and an eruption could send a chunk of land the size of the Isle of Man crashing into the sea.

This collapse would create a huge tsunami, which would spread across all sides of the Atlantic, including towards the UK and Ireland.

Dr Day said: “It could be several metres high, it depends where you are and how much energy the wave has.

"It is hard to predict how big it would be as the wave would need to bend around to reach the UK."

The boffin warned Ireland and the south-west of England are particularly vulnerable - and reminded doubters a tsunami had already caused devastation in these areas around 250 years ago.

The Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 caused the deaths of up to 100,000 people in the Portuguese city - and also sent a tsunami of around three metres high to the UK and Ireland.

The tenth anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami killing almost 250,000 people will be remembered on December 26.

Dr Day said: “The 1755 Lisbon incident was not dissimilar. If a tsunami of two or three metres hit the south-west of England or Ireland [in the modern era], you have a lot of tourists on beaches.”

Coastal towns such as Portsmouth and Southampton would be submerged, with the wave rushing over the low-lying land several miles inland.

Limerick, the third most-populous city in the Republic of Ireland, would also suffer huge devastation and loss of life in the event of the tsunami.

While his chilling warning has prompted some derision from peers, he believes recent studies have proved him right.

He said: “There was a series of objections. But independent modelling has shown the same things as me.

“Due to challenges with the aged refinery and crude oil pipelines that had been breached severally, the operations of the refinery has been epileptic.

“This we are determined to resolve through various intervention methods including evaluation of alternative crude oil supply from Niger Republic through building of a pipelines of over 1, 000 kilometers from Agadem to Kaduna.

Stop Treating Nnamdi Kanu As A Hero; Igbo Want Presidency, Not Biafra - Says Iwuanyanwu

Politician and businessman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop treating the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, as a hero.

Iwuanyanwu advised President Buhari not to treat the IPOB leader as an important personality by keeping him in detention for months but to quickly try him in court.

Iwuanyanwu, who spoke on Friday at the National Executive Council meeting of the Nigerian Union of journalists in Owerri, the Imo state capital, said Igbo desired to produce the president of the country and not to separate from it.

He said, “Igbo people are majority tribe in Nigeria. We are everywhere and doing greatly.”

He urged the President to quickly summon a meeting of elders in the country in order to find a permanent solution to the Niger Delta problems and insurgency.

Iwuanyanwu also berated the Niger Delta militants for blowing up oil pipelines, describing the act as stupidity capable of hindering the progress in the region.

Also, the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, who spoke at the event, said the country’s unity was non-negotiable.

The governor vowed to do everything to keep the country as one.

Okorocha said, “I see myself as an unusual Nigerian. While Igbo parents gave birth to me, I was born in the North, went to school there and even married in the North there. I was empowered by the West.

For me, there is no better place to call our own than Nigeria. We must do everything possible to protect the country from those who seek its downfall.”

On his part, National President of NUJ, Mr. Waheed Odusile, said the union was happy with the ongoing war against graft, urging the Federal Government to allow journalists practise without restriction.
