“A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand”

“A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other. Either the opponents of slavery will arrest the further spread of it, and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in the course of ultimate extinction; or its advocates will push it forward, till it shall become lawful in all the States, old as well as new — North as well as South.”

-Abraham Lincoln, 1858

No matter who wins today, it is clear that by all accounts America is heading towards the 21st Century version of 1860. True there is no longer chattel slavery, yet the feeling of deep divisions within the country can no longer be ignored or dismissed.

Millions of Americans feel the federal government is too involved with personal decisions. These same people see an economy that only works for the 1%. Factories have closed, skills are outdated, and new jobs pay far less than before. Blue collar workers, inner cities, and millennials feel disenfranchised.

As a dual American/Israeli citizen who grew up in the USA, worked in politics, traversed the country and now lives in Israel’s biblical heartland, I look at the country where I was born and grew up in from a different vantage point. For me looking in from the outside, America is a radically different place. It has strayed far from the compass that the Founders built for it.

It is true the United States has been on the edge before, but there were always external forces that unified the nation or a cause that empowered one side to over take the other. With nothing of the sort, America heads for a long era of division and social disintegration.

Yet, despite all of this, the ideals of the Founding Fathers and a moral electorate live on. Perhaps not within the confines of a single country, but rather in those individuals seeking to strive for a better world through personal freedom based on biblical roots.

The way forward as America and the West transitions into unchartered and dangerous waters is to cling to the Creator and his light.

"Say No To Bribe" - Nigerian Police Holds Solidarity Protest to support Buhari's fight Against corruption.

The Nigerian Police Force, Anambra State Command has called on the public to help and support the fight against corruption.

This is contained in a video reportedly made available online to online publisher Omojuwa.Com. The video clearly showed Policemen and women in their uniforms carrying banners and placards with different anti-corruption inscriptions.

This sight is actually a surprising and awkward considering how corrupt the Nigerian Police is perceived to be.

Speaking to pressmen, the Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr Sam Okaula, in a statement said; “We are now saying no to corruption. Enough is enough. We are tired of this Toga of corruption that has been hanging on our neck for quite sometimes now. Everyone of us is coming out to say no to corruption and to crime. That is what you have seen today. This message will go down the line. The Area Commanders will pass this information across and also the DPOs. We also want to sensitize the public that the Police should not be lured into corruption. The Police is ready to fight corruption to a standstill.”

Speaking further was the PPRO of the State Command, Nkiru Nwode. She was also heard saying; “You go to any Police Station and you’re asked to pay for Bail. Please, my CP operates an open door policy. His open door policy has no limit. Come to the office or call the PPRO number which has been made available to everyone. Please call and report any Police officer that asks you for money for bail. Meanwhile, not all offenses are bailable.”

The activity resulted into a traffic gridlock as the men and women of the Anambra State Police Command took to the streets chanting anti-corruption songs to create public awareness against corruption in the Police force and Nigeria as a whole.

This is a welcomed development in the country and if this kind of activities are backed up with properly structured actions, Nigeria may yet be able to rid it’s Police force of the cancerous corruption plaguing it.

Tension Hits Buhari As Tompolo, Dokubo ‘Show Up In the Creeks’ Launch Coordinated Attack
7th November 2016 Niger-Delta Militants
The efforts by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to bring lasting peace to the troubled Nigeria Delta region, hit the rock on Saturday, November 5, as Government Ekpemupolo, also known As Tompolo and Asari Dokubo, threatened war.

The Niger Delta Militants, clearly dissociated themselves from the meeting of elders from the oil-rich region with President Buhari, in Abuja, last Tuesday. Apart from distancing themselves from the meeting, they warned the Federal Government, not to rejoice yet over the recent rise in oil production in the country, threatening that a series of attacks await oil facilities in the region in the days ahead. The militants also asked the Federal Government, to drop the charges against Tompolo, and other leaders from the region.
In a statement issued by its Spokesperson, Aldo Agbalaja, the militants accused the Buhari government of plotting to wage war against the people of the Niger Delta region.“As a matter of fact, what the Avengers did to the oil industry, will be nothing compared to the grand plan already set by our central command.“We shall bring Nigeria’s daily output quota to below 500,000 barrels. Just be ready for the approaching tsunami. “The multinational oil companies, we know you are recalcitrant, and will always come to test wills, we hope you will continue in this tradition, so there will always be reason to let the world know that you don’t contest the corners of a house with the owner of the house. “The destruction of the Trans-Forcados Pipeline, is just a warning. We warned against the restarting of the facility, but the daring companies won’t listen. That shadow operation that brought the TFP down, was only meant to let these companies know that we aren’t kidding with them; when we say stay down, you stay down, and it’s in your best interest.”
The militants described last Tuesday’s meeting between Buhari and stakeholders, including traditional rulers from the region, as a humiliation of the people of the Niger Delta. “The humiliation that came with the meeting of the elders with President Muhammadu Buhari, did not come to the NDGJM, as a surprise. We expected it, because we know even the government knows the character and intent of the man, and most of those he led to the meeting.
“The only painful part, is the fact that the humiliation is stamped on the collective image of our people. However, we want to dare President Buhari and his administration, to attempt or fully carry out his military action against our people, and see the response that will follow. “We want to say here, without mincing words, that we are aware of his intentions. We heard loud and clear his hostile message, we understand his message and the NDGJM is saying we are ready for him. We know he has reportedly threatened war on our people; we had been calm enough not to respond to the threats, but at this point, we believe it is time for us to come out to say to him ‘enough is enough.
“If it is war, bring it on, we are no cowards, just be sure you can sustain the consequences because this is not going to be another vanquished ‘Biafran Uprising’. Niger Deltans are nobody’s slaves; we shall fight until there’s nothing left to defend.” Similarly, leaders of the Niger Delta Peoples Democratic Front, Ultimate Warriors of Niger Delta, and other major players in the Niger Delta Avengers, who spoke on Saturday, said they were not a party to the 16-point demand presented by their leaders of the region to Buhari.
The leader of the NDPDF, simply identified as General Playboy, faulted the stakeholders meeting with Buhari, describing it as a platform for them (leaders) to expose their selfish interests. He expressed surprise that the 16-point agenda submitted by the Niger Delta stakeholders to the Federal Government did not address the issues of Tompolo who was declared wanted by the Federal government. The militant leader stated that a situation where ex-agitators like Mujaheed Asari-Dokubo, Boyloaf and Soboma Jackrich (Egberipapa) were not part of the stakeholders meeting, was an indication that government was not ready for peace.
“Any meeting geared towards peace without protecting Tompolo’s interest will fail. Tompolo himself cannot come out to negotiate his freedom. As far as we are concerned, Tompolo’s case needs a political resolution, just like that of Henry Okah and Charles Okah.

“The surety shall be ordinarily resident in Lagos and shall be owner of built up property within Lagos metropolis,” the judge said.

“The surety shall deposit original copy of property certificate of occupancy with the registry of the court. The surety shall deposit four recent passport photographs, his international passport, depose to affidavit of means and show proof of payment of three year tax paid as at when due.”

The judge also mandated that the surety be a civil servant or public officer and must obtain a letter of introduction from an officer not below the cadre of a permanent secretary in either federal or state civil service and resident within Lagos State.

“The bankers of the surety shall write letter of introduction to indicate the age of the surety account with the bank.

“The prosecution in conjunction with the court registrar shall verify the surety as a suitable person as well as the property in issue. The certificate of occupancy shall be verified by the land registry in Lagos.”

The judge also mandated that Mr. Dudafa deposit his international passport and four recent passport photographs with the court registrar.

“Despite meeting all the herculean bail conditions as ordered by the two courts, the Commission has failed to fulfill its part, by verifying all the title documents of the sureties,” Mr. Dudafa stated in his petition.

He said various attempts by his lawyer to ensure that the Commission deposit his international travel passport with the court since he was admitted to bail had been unsuccessful.

The petitioner further accused the EFCC of a blatant refusal to verify all the title documents provided by his sureties at the Land Registry for over two months in relations to the bail conditions granted him by Mr. Kuewumi.

“From the above facts, it has become obvious that the EFCC is desperate to keep him perpetually in prison with the ultimate aim of killing him in prison despite the fact that his deteriorating state of health has been made known to the EFCC through a medical report dated August 29, 2016, and issued by the Nigerian Prison Service, Ikoyi, Lagos,” the petition said.

Mr. Dudafa appealed to the Human Rights Commission to intervene in “a clear case of arbitrary abuse of power and flagrant disregard to court order and breach of his fundamental rights” by the EFCC.

On Mr. Dudafa’s claims of the EFCC refusing to verify his bail documents, Mr. Uwujaren said “that matter is before a competent court of jurisdiction and matters before the court I don’t comment on them”.

Fulani Herdsmen Attack In Abia Community Leaves Many Seriously Injured

Suspected herdsmen with firearms attacked a community in Abia state on Friday, leaving scores of people critically wounded.

Ogbonnaya Nta, police spokesman in the state, confirmed the incident to news men, and said the command had commenced investigation.

“Ndi Okereke Abam in Ovukwu Autonomous community in Arochukwu local government area was invaded on Friday by suspected armed herdsmen,” he said.

Narrating the incident to news men in Umuahia, capital of the state, Chukwuma Okubi, president-general of the community, said the incident took place in the afternoon.

He said that six persons sustained bullet and machete wounds and were rushed to a hospital in the area for medical treatment.

The president-general said the herdsmen invaded their farmlands and destroyed their crops.

Okubi, who described the act as “provocative”, said the cattle feasted on bags of rice, harvested by one of the victims.

“The plea by the farmer to the herdsmen to take the cattle away from the rice fell on deaf ears as they drew their machete and gave several cuts on the man,” Okubi said.

“The cattle used to graze on grass in the past but this time, they were led into the farms which are our main source of livelihood.”

Okubi said it was the alarm raised by members of the man’s family, who escaped from the scene that drew the attention of the community.

He said when the information got to the town, the youth mobilised and headed for the farmlands to ascertain the level of destruction and casualty.

“Unfortunately, as soon as the herdsmen saw the youths, they opened fire on them and inflicted machete cut on some of them,” he said.

He said the timely intervention of Leye Oyebade, the commissioner of police, and the chairman, farmers/herdsmen committee set up by the police, saved the situation from degenerating.
