The Pentagon Takes Down Trey Gowdy For Going After Hillary… Please Send Your Support
trey-gowdy

In the past few months, the media has been focused on the presidential debates. While the rest of the world was distracted, Trey Gowdy was hard at work trying to uncover the truth about the terror attacks in Benghazi, Libya.

Clinton supporters have criticized the House Selection Committee on Benghazi for not completing its mission in the two years they have been investigating. Gowdy has pushed back on those claims, arguing that the White House’s lack of cooperation has delayed the investigation immensely.

Gowdy also wrote a scathing letter to Defense Secretary Ash Carter, alleging that the Pentagon chief and one of his top lieutenants, “intentionally mischaracterizes both the nature of the Committee’s investigation and its interaction with the Department of Defense.”

“It is also riddled with factual inaccuracies, which not only does a disservice to the public but also does a disservice to the women and men who work for the Department of Defense,” he continued. “Your staff is welcome to waste taxpayer dollars writing partisan, factually deficient letters to our Committee, coordinate the language with House Democrats, and then leak it to the media.

That is your prerogative. It will not prevent this Committee from interviewing all witnesses who can help us write the final, definitive accounting of what happened before, during and after the attacks that killed four Americans in Benghazi and injured others. It will just prolong the investigation.”

What do you think? Do you applaud Gowdy for refusing to back down in his fight for justice?

Police Invade Ogun Community, Loot Shops, Torture Farmer to Death

A 42-year-old farmer, Segun Elegbede, has died in the custody of policemen from the Magbon Police Division, Ogun State.

Punch learnt that Segun was tortured before being abducted by a team of policemen from the Anti-Robbery Squad of the state, who invaded Ajibawo village, in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

The policemen were alleged to have looted shops in the community after which they descended on the victim.

He was said to have been taken away to the division and prevented from seeing friends and family members.

Seven days after he was arrested, a member of his family was reportedly called on the telephone that he was dead and his corpse deposited in a morgue.

A hairdresser in Ajibawo, Modinat Akinola, said no one knew the reason for the attack which occurred on October 14, 2016, adding that her shop was among those looted by the policemen.

“They took away my phones, recharge cards, ATM cards, money, canned malt, tin milk and bottled drinks, among others. The value of everything is about N400,000. A man, who was sleeping in the house beside my shop, was attacked and taken away that day.”

Akinola said she later reported the incident at the Atan Ota Police Station.

The wife of the victim, Fatimoh Elegbede, said she was not around, adding that she was alerted to the attack around 5pm.

“When I got back to the community, everywhere was deserted. When I entered our house, I saw that it had been vandalised.

“When I got to Magbon Police Division, I was not allowed to see my husband; they kept asking me to exercise patience. After seven days, the police called my husband’s sister that she should.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said he was not aware of the incident, promising to get back to our correspondent.

Belgium, Congo activists urge probe into Congo corruption claims

Belgium’s foreign minister and democracy activists in Democratic Republic of Congo called on Congolese authorities to investigate allegations that high-ranking officials stole millions of dollars in public funds.

The accusations surfaced shortly after the postponement of an election for a successor to President Joseph Kabila, originally scheduled for next month, until at least April 2018. The delay triggered violent unrest in the capital Kinshasa last month in which at least 50 people died.

In an article last week, the Belgian newspaper Le Soir cited documents provided by Jean-Jacques Lumumba, a former employee at the Congo branch of BGFI Bank, central Africa’s biggest bank, as indicating a series of transactions that resulted in large and unexplained losses of state money.

Congo’s government spokesman did not respond to a phone call or text message requesting comment and BGFI did not respond to an email. Lumumba referred questions to Le Soir. Reuters was not able to independently confirm any instances of wrongdoing.

“The revelations are so serious … that the attorney general of the republic should investigate this affair,” Jean-Claude Katende, president of the African Association for the Defense of Human Rights (ASADHO), told Reuters on Monday.

Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders also called for an investigation during an interview with RTL-TVI on Sunday.
“I hope that, with all the documents that have been provided, there can be not only investigations in Congo but also international investigations,” he said.

Belgium was the colonial power in Congo until its independence in 1960.

Le Soir cited several alleged misuses of public funds. In one case, it said, the national electoral commission allegedly made millions of dollars in unexplained withdrawals from a $25 million credit line it opened this year even as $54 million in funds allocated to it by the treasury for electoral operations remained untouched.

A spokesman for the electoral commission referred Reuters to the commission’s president, who did not respond to a phone call or a text message requesting comment.

In another case described by Le Soir, the Central Bank allegedly made $43 million worth of unexplained transfers to the account of a company chaired by Albert Yuma, who is also chairman of the state mining firm Gecamines and a Kabila ally.

The Central Bank denied that it had ever transferred money to the company. Yuma told Reuters the accusation against him was “baseless” and that he was preparing a formal response that would be published in Le Soir.

Corruption is endemic in the vast central African state. Kabila’s counsellor on graft and money laundering, Luzolo Bambi, said last year that the country loses up to $15 billion a year to fraud, roughly three times the annual budget.

Any Niger Delta meeting without Tompolo in attendance will fail – Bebenimibo

A Niger Delta activist, Comrade Paul Bebenimibo, has claimed that any meeting of Niger Delta leaders with President Muhammadu Buhari without one of the former militant leaders, Government Ekpemupolo, otherwise known as Tompolo, will not be successful.

According to Bebenimibo, those parading themselves as Niger Delta leaders were not in touch with the people.

The activist in a statement issued in Benin City on Monday, urged the Federal Government to make effort to identify the true stakeholders in the Niger Delta to achieve peace in the region.

He stated that the commencement of the Maritime University at Okerenkoko and the private sector driven $16 billion EPZ project, would guarantee a conducive atmosphere for dialogue.

According to him, “We are happy that our leaders are talking with the Federal Government but the truth is that from the information from the grass root, the Federal government should also identify true stakeholders like High Chief Government Ekpemupolo.

“Government should identify such people to work with because he understands the terrain, he has the capacity to check militancy and above all, his humanitarian gesture has brought him closer to the people.
“And when he speaks, the youths listen, so they need him. Majority of us are expressing this view because some of the leaders the Federal government is speaking with are not in touch with our people, as a result they cannot change anything. And if they go on with such people, nothing will be achieved; I can tell you.

“For us to guarantee immediate peace and commence talks for the development of the Niger delta, the Federal government should kick off the Maritime university at Okerenkoko.

“Secondly, the private sector driven sixteen billion dollars EPZ project should start immediately to provide employment and business opportunities for our people.

“These are the two projects that will guarantee immediate peace in the Niger Delta and conducive atmosphere in the region for government to implement other programmes and to also have hitch free crude oil business”, he stated.
