We’re about to see a record-breaking supermoon - the biggest in nearly 70 years

The closest full moon in the 21st century.
BEC CREW
2 NOV 2016

If you only see one astronomical event this year, make it the November supermoon, when the Moon will be the closest to Earth it’s been since January 1948.

During the event, which will happen on the eve of November 14, the Moon will appear up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than an average full moon. This is the closest the Moon will get to Earth until 25 November 2034, so you really don’t want to miss this one.

So how do you get a supermoon?

As NASA explains, because the Moon has an elliptical orbit, one side - called the perigee - is about 48,280 km (30,000 miles) closer to Earth than the other side (the apogee).

When the Sun, the Moon, and Earth line up as the Moon orbits Earth, that’s known as syzygy (definitely something you want to keep in your back pocket for your next Scrabble match).

When this Earth-Moon-Sun system occurs with the perigee side of the Moon facing us, and the Moon happens to be on the opposite side of Earth from the Sun, we get what’s called a perigee-syzygy.

That causes the Moon to appear much bigger and brighter in our sky than usual, and it’s referred to as a supermoon - or more technically, a perigee moon.

Supermoons aren’t all that uncommon - we just had one on October 16, and after the November 14 super-supermoon, we’ll have another one on December 14.

But because the November 14 Moon becomes full within about 2 hours of perigee, it’s going to look the biggest it has in nearly seven decades.

"The full moon of November 14 is not only the closest full moon of 2016, but also the closest full moon to date in the 21st century," says NASA. "The full moon won’t come this close to Earth again until 25 November 2034."

Depending on where you're viewing it from, the difference between a supermoon and a regular full moon can be stark, or difficult to tell. If the Moon is hanging high overhead, and you have no buildings or landmarks to compare it to, it can be tricky to tell that it's larger than usual.

But if you're viewing from a spot where the Moon is sitting closer to the horizon, it can create what's known as 'moon illusion'.

"When the moon is near the horizon, it can look unnaturally large when viewed through trees, buildings, or other foreground objects," says NASA. "The effect is an optical illusion, but that fact doesn’t take away from the experience."

If you're planning on viewing the November 14 supermoon, be sure to get somewhere nice and dark, away from the lights of the city, if you can.

You'll have some awesome opportunities to take pictures with your phone overnight, but if you want to see it at its absolute biggest, it's expected to reach the peak of its full phase on the morning of November 14 at 8:52am EST (1352 GMT).

For those of you in Australia, you'll need to wait until November 15 to see it, and the Moon will hit its full phase at 12:52am AEST.

Here's a taste of what's to come:

Hallelujah: Biggest Never Trump Fighter, Glenn Beck Just Decided – Finally Is On Trump Train!
By Conservative Army -
November 2, 2016

Glenn Beck was fighting against Trump for months!

He was brutal against Trump!

HE even went on MSNBC for days to trash Trump with no mercy.

And now, this.

According to The Blaze:

Conservative radio host Glenn Beck predicted on his nationally syndicated talk show Monday that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump would win the election because of the latest revelations in the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

Beck noted that while almost 20 percent of the country has already voted in early voting, he believed the latest revelations would sink Clinton, repeatedly stating, “The race is over.”

“It’s too much. The press has had it,” Beck said. “They’ve had it. I really believe the Clintons have overplayed their hand and outstayed their welcome with the press.”

Beck noted that Trump was still in the hole but predicted he would still win by five percentage points:

GLENN: Let’s say he was eight points — that was fair to say — eight points behind last week, he should win this by five points.

STU: I mean, you’d just think, it has to be. Right?

GLENN: Yeah.

STU: Sure, they’re going to do their typical stuff to try to muddy the waters. And I’ve heard some of the Clinton people out there trying to do that.

PAT: Pretty hard.

STU: But the bottom line, this fits perfectly into what — a perfect campaign issue. You have a completely nondescript, open-ended problem that Trump can put any face on it he wants.

PAT: And he will.

STU: And he will. And they would too, obviously.

GLENN: How can the next president face a possible collapsing economy, possible war with Russia, and a current war with ISIS? Oh, and also, be under FBI investigation and indictment? Can’t. Can’t.

We agree with Glen! Trump is so wining this one.

We are safe folks, the danger is over!

$29.9bn Loan: South East Lawmakers Angry, Set For War Over Exclusion Of Zone In Projects Listing

Members of the House of Representatives South-East Caucus met on Monday in Abuja, over the passage of certain bills which they considered inimical to the zone.

According to sources at the meeting held in the office of a ranking member from the zone, the lawmakers extensively discussed the Grazing Bill, the Sharia Bill and the recent request from President Muhammadu Buhari for approval of the $29.960 billion external borrowing (rolling) plan from 2016-2018.

Oriental Times also learnt that at the meeting which had the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo in attendance, the Caucus resolved to vote against the approval of the borrowing plan.

At the gathering which is the third in the series, it was agreed that the issue of the Sharia Bill would be handled diplomatically to avoid a gang up against the zone which is already perceived to be anti-government.

“In the last one month, we have come together to discuss certain bills which have made our people uncomfortable. But we thought it wise that even when we can oppose the Grazing Bill, we should tread softly when it comes to the issue of the Sharia Bill because our goal is to get support for our position on it and not to steer up resentment against our zone,” he added.

Chairman of the South- East Caucus, Chukwuka Onyema, confirmed that members met earlier in the week.

“It’s true we met with the Abuja branch of Ohaneze and they spoke on national issues they considered very important to our people and one or two bills they expressed misgivings on.

“We explained the actions we had taken and that we are doing all we can to protect the interest of our zone. I believe they were satisfied with the explanation we gave them,” he said.

The House had received bashing from Christian groups since May when it passed a pro-Sharia bill for second reading.

The House had also in March passed for second reading a bill to establish national grazing routes and reserves as well as a commission to manage the reserves.
