JUST IN!!! Give Us Oil Blocks, Niger Delta Elders Tell Buhari

Niger Delta leaders have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to allocate oil blocks to natives of the region as a means of ending militancy in the area.

The leaders of the oil-rich region, who were led by Edwin Clark and Alfred Diette-Spiff, made this demand when they met with the president in Abuja on Tuesday.

They made 16 demands which include,‎ “the allocation of oil blocks to Niger Delta natives‎ so as to grant them inclusive participation in the oil industry‎, the end of the militarisation of the region, review of the amnesty programme, proper funding of the Niger Delta Development Commission, stopping gas flaring, and returning the headquarters of oil companies to the region to stimulate development.”

Speaking with state house correspondents at the end of the meeting, Spiff said with the 16 points “quick wins can be achieved and can restore hope and confidence in a region that has grown sceptical of dialogue and engagements that have hardly produced tangible results.” ,

“The 16 points raised included infrastructural development, manpower, human resources and development and of course, welfare of the people. These are the maiabn things,” he said.

“Relocation of the oil companies. One of those things that we pointed out is that these IOCs have their headquarters somewhere in Lekki or Abuja. Even their operational headquarters are not in their area of operation. So, they are very divorced from the whole activity. This is not right because even the pay as you earn tax is not coming to the region. The workers, nobody is engaged locally there. They just come and harvest and go away. In fact one of two of the French companies there fly in people from abroad and the next crew goes on board the next flight going out. It’s as serious as that. Since it’s a federal government controlled thing we cannot do very much, so we have to appeal to the federal to see that this thing is stopped.

“The presence of the military of course, you know has been agitating the boys. That too we said should be reversed. We don’t want to see the place militarised.

“Then you have the university issue which has been resolved. Oron has been there in the last 18 years, it’s going to be made a degree awarding institution. You also have situations where most of our ports, the estuaries are silted. You know cocoa for instance, ships can’t get in there. Escravos have been silted. You have Burutu, Warri, and all those ports. So, they need to be dredged and kept passable. We also have situations where the youths who have dropped their arms and demilitarized are now being sent on training and they come back and they have no jobs. What are you pushing them to. To use their new skills and go back to the creeks? No. So, the engagement is to make sure that they either form into cooperatives to do farming or fishing or doing something gainful.

“So, we really need to engage the youths who have been trained by the amnesty programme. In addition, the Ogoni situation for instance, is one of many. So,while they are doing the clean up in Ogoni, this should be extended to other parts of the Niger delta.

“And, water supply is very essential because the United Nations environment programme has declared that the water is unfit for human consumption. So, all these are things which add up to what makes the people of the Niger delta. Although the laugh and act and smile. Beneath that frown and smile, they are wearing a frown. So, that is the situation. They are really feeling cheated and short-changed. These are what have been pointed out. The federal government should bring out a key, to go there, have a look see, confirm all that we are saying and see that things are addressed. And they are minor issues that can be done just by the red pen of the president.”

Also, speaking with journalists, Ibe kachickwu, minister of state for petroleum, who brokered the meeting, explained why militant leaders were absent.

‎He said militant leaders were not invited because Buhari wanted to hear from their elder who they were and how to locate the root causes of problem the before taking further action.‎

The minister said with the dialogue crude oil production ‎had risen to as high as 2.1 million barrels, “largely as a result of preliminary negotiations and scaling down of hostilities by militants in the Niger Delta.

On his part, the president promised to study the demands and to cooperate with them in ending the environmental and economic sabotage of the region.

However, he added that their demands did not require quick solutions, but that they needed lasting solutions.

Tension As Fulani Herdsmen, Delta Community Exchange Gunfire


Suspected Fulani herdsmen and youths from Umunor community in Ossissa Kingdom in the Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday evening exchanged gunfire.

Although, it was not clear if there was any casualty, it was learnt that the exchange of gunshots followed an attempt by some suspected herdsmen to invade the community over a lingering crisis between the farmers and herdsmen in the area.

Sources in the community told our correspondent on Tuesday that the incident made residents to flee to neighbouring villages.

A security source told news men that a security post had been stationed in the area following the intervention of the council chairman and the police area commander who visited the village on Tuesday morning.

“We don’t know if any casualty was recorded during Monday’s incident but there was a heavy exchange of gunfire between herdsmen and community members over a failed attack on Umunor community. Our men have been drafted there to keep the peace.”

Hundreds Left Jobless As Lagos State Government Demolishes 2,000 Shanties In Jakande Estate


Operatives of the Lagos State Building Investment Corporation, Monday, demolished over 2,000 illegal shanties and makeshift shops allegedly used to deface Jakande Estate in Ejigbo. The action of the agency, according to residents and shop owners in the estate have rendered hundreds of people jobless as the shops provided a ‘daily bread’ to the owners.

According to one of the residents, Kayode Adesina who spoke to The Guardian amidst tears:

“The demolition was carried by the Lagos State Building Investment Corporation and the Ministry of Environment. They gave us notice of demolition but where do they expect us to go. They said they want to beautify the estate. They came with over seven Bulldozers and dozens of military men and here we are, I have my children in the university. My job stopped and it was from this shop they demolished that we have been feeding on.

“I am devastated as I speak to you now. We have gone to the Lagos State House of Assembly to register our protest; we have also been to Baba Jakande’s house. I am confused and I don’t know what to do.

”Another shop owner, Gboyega Adebanjo told The Guardian that the entire estate would protest the action of government.

His words:

“This was not the change we voted for. It is unfair that actions of the government are usually against the poor and the middle class. What do they expect us to do now? How can they just come and destroy our source of livelihood?”

According to another resident, who identified himself as Damilola Agbaje:

“The exercise carried out by government is not in our favour. It is not good that Lagos State government has continued to make life miserable for us. We are not in a happy mood at all.”

Women and youths of the area were sighted wearing long faces as scavengers had a filled day carrying metals from the destroyed buildings.

Although, shop owners had attempted to halt the demolition, they were prevented by fierce looking military personnel who came with the Lagos State officials.

One of the shop owners who spoke with The Guardian said that she had owned the place for over a decade.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, has said that the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has relentlessly worked for the unity of Nigeria.

Okorocha stated this yesterday in Owerri through his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, on the Sultan’s 10th anniversary on the throne.

The Sultan of Sokoto According to the release, “the story of the unity of this great nation will not be complete without the noble name of the Sultan being prominently mentioned.

He has diligently preached peace among Nigerians and religiously pursued the unity of this country. “As the Sultan celebrates this legendary event, the prayers of Nigerians of goodwill should be that the Almighty God would continue to keep him and grant him more inspiring anniversaries in the years ahead.”

The governor also commended the people of Sokoto State for their unflinching support for the detribalised monarch and prayed that such support would not cease.

Gowdy appeared to be setting Hillary Clinton up for perjury charges. Corrupt Hillary previously testified about her emails to the House Benghazi Committee. Specifically Hillary said under oath that she had not sent or received classified documents on her personal email server.

Under cross examination from Trey Gowdy, Comey admitted that Hillary lied. Since she was under oath, this sets her up for being charged with perjury.

Boom! That is why Trey Gowdy is such an important member of the House of Representatives! He set the plate to charge Hillary with perjury.

Comey admitted to Gowdy that Hillary Clinton’s attorneys scrubbed her devices and server in a way that would prevent recovery on some emails. He also said that she lied and used multiple devices to send emails. And of course she lied about sending classified information, but he has a reasoning behind that. Gowdy got Comey to admit that Hillary is too stupid to know what classified means!

HIV and AIDS patients may find new hope in a drug developed at Hebrew University in Jerusalem which is currently being tested at the Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot.

The drug was inserted into test tubes containing the blood of ten AIDS patients currently being treated at the hospital, and was found to decrease the HIV virus count in the blood samples by as much as 97 percent in just eight days, Channel 2 reported Monday.

The active ingredient in the drug is a peptide, or smaller version of a protein, that was developed by Abraham Loyter and Assaf Friedler at Hebrew University. The peptide causes several copies of the virus’s DNA to enter the infected cell, instead of just one copy, causing the cell to self-destruct.

HIV is currently treated with a cocktail of drugs that slow the progression of the infection in the body but never rid the patient of the virus entirely. These drugs have allowed doctors to treat AIDS as a chronic illness as opposed to a fatal one.

Loyter explained that the new approach is superior to previous efforts.

“With our approach,” Loyter told Channel 2, “we are destroying the cells, so there is no chance that the virus will awaken one day, because there are no cells, there will be no cells that contain the virus.”

Loyter explained that “the drug enhances certain processes in the body during the spreading of the virus and that enhancement kills certain cells.”

In a separate but related development, the Health Ministry announced last week it would begin distributing prophylactic drugs for the first time to populations at higher risk of contracting HIV. The drugs, when taken regularly, have been found to be effective in preventing the spread of HIV during contact.

The new emails of Hillary Clinton reveal that the real reason behind the invasion were primarily the countries large gold and oil reserves, and the extension of French influence in North Africa.

The U.S. State Department has published a series of emails that reveal the volume of gold reserves of Gaddafi. According to the documents, the reserves are so great that they could become the basis for creating a pan-African currency, which, in turn, could compete with the dollar in the region.

FBI Releases Documents Related To 2001 Investigation Into Clinton Foundation

With the election just a week away, the FBI has released a tranche of 15-year-old documents dealing with Bill Clinton’s pardon of a fugitive financier—a move that the bureau made without explanation and that only adds to the confusion surrounding its controversial role in the presidential contest.

While they offer some tantalizing tidbits, the documents are heavily redacted and they don’t seem to offer any substantial new information about the criminal inquiry launched by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York after Clinton pardoned Marc Rich in 2001. Long sought for extradition, the wealthy Rich was living overseas to escape charges related to tax evasion and exporting goods to Iran (which remains under a less restrictive U.S. embargo). His wife, Denise Rich, a singer-songwriter, was a major donor to the Clintons.

The timing of the document dump—just seven days before the election—is giving fodder to critics of FBI Director James Comey. While the Clinton campaign has not released a formal statement about these documents from the winter of 2001, Brian Fallon, a Clinton spokesman tweeted: "Absent a FOIA litigation deadline, this is odd. Will FBI be posting docs on Trump's housing discrimination in '70s?”

Comey is “acting like he’s trying to throw the election,” says Steve Ryan, a prosecutor in Ronald Reagan's Justice Department who worked on organized crime, referring to the FBI director’s “trifecta”—comments about the Hillary Clinton email probe over the summer; his shocking letter last week announcing new evidence related to that case; and now this out-of-the-blue FBI document dump.

“It looks worse and worse each day. He’s out of his swim lane.… There’s no precedent for this. I think it’s the most troubling thing I’ve seen out of law enforcement,” he adds. Ryan notes that he is a Hillary Clinton donor, but a number of Republicans have criticized Comey as well, including Larry Thompson, the deputy attorney general under President George W. Bush.

As for the documents, they contain almost no previously unreleased information, with the exception of several pages that refer to seized property—apparently as evidence—including, intriguingly, "one cellophane containing" and "one red rope containing."

The documents are so heavily redacted it is impossible to tell what the cellophane or red rope "contained" or what, if anything, they have to do with Rich's pardon.

Jill Farrell, a spokeswoman for the right-wing watchdog group Judicial Watch, which has been leading efforts to expose Hillary Clinton's email habits and the FBI's investigation by filing Freedom of Information Act requests and civil lawsuits against the government, said the latest document drop was not in response to any of its requests. "Tangentially, but not directly for these ones. We’ve certainly been after this information and are glad they finally coughed it up," she says.

Judicial Watch is funded by the Sarah Scaife Foundation. Scaife's late son, Richard Mellon Scaife, financed many of the outside investigations into Bill Clinton's financial and alleged extramarital affairs during the 1990s. The two men made peace before Scaife died, though, and Clinton spoke at Scaife’s funeral.

The Clinton campaign has been warring with Comey since he sent a letter to Congress last week informing key committee members that the agency had found new documents pertaining to the Hillary Clinton email investigation. Later, news reports revealed that the documents were on the computer of Anthony Weiner, the former congressman who is being investigated for allegedly lewd contacts with an underage girl. His wife, Huma Abedin, is a longtime aide to the Democratic presidential nominee. Abedin’s lawyer, Karen Dunn, issued a statement on Monday saying that Abedin was fully cooperating with federal authorities. The FBI has said it has begun to examine Weiner’s computer, but no one is expecting it to finish inspecting the device, let alone assessing whether anything on the machine is there in violation of the law, before Election Day, November 8.

These 15-year-old documents from the Marc Rich pardon case don’t seem to bear any relation to the current investigation. They were released on the website where the bureau makes documents available to those who have filed FOIA requests. When a Newsweek reporter asked the FBI about the origins of this document, who requested it, and why it's coming out now, the bureau sent back a pro forma statement saying that it was "following the law and standard procedure" of putting requested documents on its site once they had been processed.

Adding to the weirdness of the document release was the way it was announced on Twitter. The account, @FBIRecordsVault, had been dormant for over a year. Then at 40 AM on Sunday, 20 new postings were announced in a single tweetstorm including one about records for Fred C. Trump, the Republican nominee's late father. On Monday, the site heralded the arrival of the Marc Rich documents, putting them under the heading of "William J. Clinton Foundation" although the connection between the foundation and the Rich pardon is unclear from an examination of the heavily redacted files.

The probe was being conducted by the "Public Corruption Unit," according to the documents, which say that "donations may have been intended to influence the fugitive's pardon."

The documents are reminders of the long and often intertwining careers of many of the America's top law enforcement officials. It was Comey who replaced Clinton’s U.S. attorney for the Southern District, Mary Jo White, and the embryonic investigation ended on his watch. (Comey was an Assistant U.S. Attorney, or AUSA, in that office during Clinton's last term in office.) The case against Rich, who was found guilty of selling goods to Iran, as well as violating embargos with Libya and North Korea, was brought in 1983 by then-U.S. Attorney for the Southern District, Rudolph Giuliani, who went on to become mayor of New York City and is now a prominent supporter of Donald Trump’s presidential bid. The point man at the Justice Department for the pardons was Eric Holder, who dealt with the White House which sidestepped the DOJ's usual elaborate procedures for reviewing pardons during its last days in office in January 2001. Holder was the deputy attorney general at the time and would be appointed attorney general by President Barack Obama in 2009. Marc Rich died in 2013.

The Rich pardon was extremely controversial at the time. He was a top target of U.S. law enforcement and Clinton's decision to grant him a pardon was widely condemned by American law enforcement officials although not everyone joined in the condemnation. At the time many speculated that the pardon was wrapped up in Middle East politics. In January 2001, Clinton's last ditch effort to produce an Israeli-Palestinian settlement had faltered, but Israeli and Palestinian negotiators were going to give it one more try in meetings in Taba, Egypt just after Clinton left office. The White House was trying to bolster the political fortunes of Ehud Barak, the Israeli Prime Minister who was facing an election. Israel had long lobbied for the pardon of Jonathan Pollard who was convicted for spying for Jewish state but Clinton was unwilling to free Pollard over the objections of the CIA and other government agencies. But by pardoning Rich, who was popular for his philanthropic work in Israel, the president, it was widely assumed, was able to at least offer some help to Barak. In March 2001, Barak lost to Ariel Sharon.
